Only one point I would like to make is that as of now, his success have been limited to Gujarat and it's not been proven outside. Also, its good that BJP finally has decided this once and for all and now they have a year to plan their strategy rather than roam around like a headless chicken. Advani is being side-lined and it might be time for his retirement
CSK Fan Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 As far as the pejoratives that you have liberally used to describe your opinion of Modi, by your logic they can be applied to even Sardar Patel and Nehru - far far more people died in riots under their watch, in addition to Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Narasimha Rao - all these people were in charge when many more people died in riots than in Narendra Modi's rule in Gujarat. Yes, yes and yes. Just because those people got scott-free doesnt mean that in my life-time I can stand someone go unpunished for the same crime. And none of these are standing for prime- minister now, are they?

On the other hand, he has not been named the PM candidate so the allies will not object and the Cong also won't be able to target him directly.

Focus is on those 150 seats which have been won by BJP in the past but are not with them right now. A tough battle ahead for Modi. Delhi based media will be baying for his blood, there would be lot of hit jobs some even covertly supported by anti-Modi camp of BJP. And the 1st real test would be the elections to 5 state assemblies in Nov-Dec.

That's logic dont use sarcasm when you are trying to make serious arguments. no one here is claiming Modi is the second coming of christ. I myself dont agree with him on many of his policies. either you dont know how to read properly or willingfully keep yourself aloof of what other posters write. if you only read in entirety what seedhi wrote, we wouldnt be having this conversation. for you to say its BS is your opinion and i respect that. however that doesnt mean others will have to agree with you in your assessment of the 2002 riots. As you said rightly, this issue has been debated over and over again. lets leave it at that.

The shooting was staged and according to forensic, medical and material evidence, the victims were killed before the "encounter date" of June 15, 2004, said the report, which was submitted on November 18. The three member SIT was headed by Bihar cadre IPS Rajiv Ranjan Verma. A high court bench - which did not make the report public - initially ordered that a fresh FIR be filed, charging the policemen involved with murder. However, later, it decided that a final order regarding the FIR will be given on Wednesday. Police have maintained that Ishrat, Javed Sheikh alias Pranesh Pillai, Amjad Ali Rana and Zeeshan Johar were members of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, on a mission to kill chief minister Narendra Modi. Over 20 policemen, including senior IPS officers, are involved in the case. The probe will now pass on to a central agency. The court on Monday sought suggestions from the petitioners and the government on whether to entrust the task to the CBI or the National Investigation Agency. "The probe agency needs to find out who played the key role... what was the motive, what was the actual time of death and the circumstances in which they were killed," it said. The development is a blow to the Modi government, facing a series of fake encounter charges against its police force. But families of the victims hailed the report as a "victory of truth". Said Ishrat's uncle Rauf Lala: "She was innocent, it is our victory." The Gujarat high court on October 7 asked the SIT, probing the encounter, to submit its final report by November 18. That was the second time that the court had directed the SIT to submit its final report. During the hearing on September 10, the SIT was asked to give its final report by October 7. However, the team had submitted an interim report saying investigation into the case was not yet over. During the October 7 proceedings, Verma had said that they wanted to conduct psycho-analysis test on some of the witnesses, who have turned hostile and the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) has given them time to conduct such a test between October 19 and 21. Verma also told the court that they had some queries regarding the CFSL report on reconstruction of the encounter. Ishrat, Pillai, Rana and Johar were allegedly killed by Ahmedabad Crime Branch in an encounter on June 15, 2004. A team of Ahmedabad crime branch on July 15, 2004 had intercepted an Indica car and later on killed four persons in encounter. The probe in the case was supervised directly by the high court which constituted the SIT last year to investigate the genuineness of the gunfight after petitions were filed by Ishrat's mother Shamima Kausar and Gopinath Pillai, father of Pranesh, raising questions about the police version of the incident.

deathmonger Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 The problem with Narendra Modi supporters and his critics are that they refuse to see his good with the bad and thus try to cancel out his achievements/flaws according to political affiliation. NaMo supporters point to his economic growth and pretend that Gujarat did not happen (or it was justified). NaMo critics talk about the riots (often making it one sided by skipping muslim mobs/Godhra) and try to show loopholes in his economic achievements. Is Narendra Modi an able administrator who has changed the face of Gujarat and brought stuff like 24 hours electricity and working on ambitious projects like GIFT City and Dholera? Yes he is. Is Narendra Modi responsible for Gujarat riots? This is more tricky. I believe he is. Prolly not in a "Sab ko maar daalo" way as often portrayed but more like "Karo jo karna hai. Mai sambhal dunga". But my 'belief' is unimportant (as is the belief of many who believe he had a role in the riots). The rule is innocent until proven guilty and there's a case going on against him and only if he's proven guilty he is guilty, not before. Yes, he's a CM and can tamper with the evidence but that's that and we have to live with it. I will not vote for Modi not because of the riots and all (Don't really give a damn about them) but because I don't believe his economic policies will work in an all India context. Also the rest of the BJP team are a bunch of morons. People like Sushma Swaraj making decisions give me the chill. So I'll vote for INC. Personally I don't believe Modi will ever become PM but he'll remain CM for life and when he dies he'll die with full state honours.

However, Jayalalithaa declined to comment on the development, insisting it was that party's internal matter. "Politically I do not think it would be proper for me to make a comment on what has happened in another party, but at a personal level, Modi is a very good friend of mine, I have high regard for him as an able administrator. My good wishes are always with him whether he wins election in Gujarat or achieves an elevation in his own party. I'm happy for him," she told reporters in Chennai src: IBN If Modi gets support of Mamata [not too difficult] & outside support from Jagan [at the mercy of CBI] he will be in strong position. Things are not as bleak i thought.
