suraj Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 The thousands of Bhayiaas that migrated to Punjab in the last 10-12 changed the entire demographics of some places like Ludhiana....the majority setup in chuggis/ghettos and hundreds line up along the railway tracks to do jungle paani in the morning.. it is good that Bihar is progressing Hopefully this will mean they'll stay out of Delhi too

Zero planning by city/state govt. is more to blame for jhuggi/ghetto situation.

There's no denying that there has been a huge influx (almost exponential) of Bhayiaas from Bihar in Punjab in the last 10-15 years especially in Ludhiana which directly changed the demographics many areas in Ludhiana and Punjab. Yeah, agree about bit about the Bhayias providing the labor. I was talking about the changing demographics before and now. There are cinemas in Ludhiana playing Bhojpuri movies :winky:

Depending on how old you are, you may know this or check with your elders. c) Bihari migrants were the easy target during Sikh extremism. No other "state" lost as many people, outside of Punjab, in Punjab during its worst years. Again, please check with elders. d) Migration to Punjab has started to slow down these days, thereby affecting Punjab's economy. There is no need to be upset... ; ) I agree the economy has gone down cause they don't need to come to Punjab anymore and Punjab then falls short of labor. Some people are ignorant and quite racist against people from Bihar but they should be ignored unless they're just kidding around.

The migration may have started before but it was really noticeable in the last 15 years. Few questions: Have you ever been to Punjab? A decade and a half lost. And someone like Rajiv Gandhi has the audacity to say that when a big tree falls..the earth shakes...and he became the PM of India after the genocide of Sikhs in 1984. It does not have the infrastructure to take all the migration without a drop in the quality of life... Soon there are likely to be large scale slums as the infrastructure is not likely to keep up. Another bombay with all its slums? I hope not and would hope that the government puts in enough thought at planning the infrastructure. Does Punjab really want an increasing economy rate with huge migrations at the expense of the above issues? :dontknow: According to stats, every 5th person is a migrant in Ludhiana and there are likely 1 million Biharis in Punjab and most centered in Ludhiana. A t-shirt depicting what each place in Punjab is famous for... Ludhiana jine bhaiye nayee (Ludhiana famous for its huge Bhaiya population; no other place has more Bhaiyes than Ludhiana)

Its law of world people move fom one part to another in search of job search of good living. Beleive me dude no one wants to leave his home or hometown. Next time when you are moving in Toronto and see a Gora staring you or racially abusing you rememeber what you have said about migrant to your state before saying anything to him.
