Come on now, flashing skin was as much present in the ancient Indian culture as it is in the present western culture. Indians are just going one full circle. :cantstop:

I appreciate your sentiment, really do, but in my humble opinion it is overly misplaced. The 1000 year intermingling and creation of a composite "Indianness" had something inherently at its core - mixing of people/cultures/traditions. That is not what is happening here. It is not exactly that a bunch of Americans have moved to India and Indian literature has become rich due to their presence. This whole concept of aping West, specially United States, is weird because a) It is a one way street. They dont ape us, we ape them. b) Nobody is coming here and sharing "ideas", in most cases we are blatantly plagiarising it (the subject at issue here). Mughals came to India, lived, died and are buried here. They made India rich. Tom Cruise and Steve Jobs did not. See the difference :winky:
C'mon dude, why would a rich guy in India take a ride in India? An air-conditioned car is always much easier and whoever has access to it will use it over public transportation. Public transportation is developed and well maintained in western cities, it's not so in India. It's just not an option for a man with a car.

But you also need to see the difference. They did not mingle with us Indian that is the difference here. Even now if they come here' date=' they wont accept our traditions, but if people form here go there, they do and will still have their own virtues intact. tell me how mughals made India rich. They just India's resources for their sumptuous lives. Other than several Muslim invaders robbed and marauded people and temples, etc.[/quote'] I also happen to be a keen follower of history,I think akbar did contribute to indian culture and so did shah jahan .They did not invade temples rather were tolerable particulalrly akbar .

How influenced whom is a complicated story and I won't get to it. I just wonder whether we sometimes take a decision ourselves (without the knowledge of what goes on in the west) and then conveniently blame the west for spoiling our culture. We also have a false sense of moral righteousness that we are moral seers as compared to people in the west which I don't think is the best thing to do.

There were plenty others before Akbar because Akbar didnt invade. He just got the empite of Humayun established by Babar, his father and grandfather. Other than that history goes back to over 800 years from now. From Gauri to Gajnavi, Taimoor, tuglak, Khilji, Aibak, etc.

Wait' date=' so Americans do their household chores because they like it ? THE SOLE reason US people do their own chosres is that a middle class American cannot afford a housekeeper/maid, compared to middle class Indian family (or even bachelors) which can easily afford a maid. Nothing about values and shyte like that. What happens to the American values when people get rich ? A lot of them have maids/butlers etc, I personally know quite a few.[/quote'] There is no such THE SOLE reason as you proclaim. On an average a Western is far less dependent on help than his Indian counterpart. Simple. Forget cleaning, an average Western chap knows a bit about his car, cleaning his pool, tending his backyard etc. Since you mentioned American, lets both agree that an average American male stands more chance of buying a fridge, taking it home and hooking it up WITHOUT needing any help. An average Indian, even an Engineer, would be found wanting. Lets learn to give credit where it is due. We can learn a lot from West on this whole side, if we are being honest (and less defensive) of course:winky::winky:

Tops? Bulk of us grew us watching our Dads ride Bajaj Chetak and Vijay Supers. Or even Lambrettas and Bullet. Somehow cold, heat and rain didnt matter then. Suddenly our generation has become this whole "cant live without ac generation". And it only grows unabated. My 4 year old niece is penalised by my brother by switching off a/c (yes we have some delightfully heated discussions sometimes). Mcenely is right that this will end up becoming moralistic at some point so yeah take it what it is worth, not really wanting to get into another "India aint so bad" discussion :winky::winky:

Neccesity is the mother of all invention as they say...primary reason driving this behavior is money not any values or stuff like that...btw what is the engineering required in hooking up a fridge...get a life.

Lurker, i get a feeling (especially with the examples) that you're comparing the some of the best of the west (those intentionally using public transport/bike) vs the worst of India (spoilt AC/car brats). The fact of the matter is, USA has an unbelievable appetite for oil and the country is obsessed with cars like none other nation. India's national oil bill must be what, same as that of top 3 states of USA ? The vast majority of India still uses two wheelers/public transport or shared means like rickshaws while the avg American travels around often alone in their huge SUV/pickup truck ? Agreed ? With that in mind, are we talking about apples vs oranges here ? Europe might be different and i haven't lived there but what you're suggesting is primarily based on American experiences, correct ? There's no doubt about the fact that we have to learn bigger things like gender equality, zero tolerance for child labor etc. Its just the illustrations you mentioned seem to be odd to many of us wrt the topic.

Totally agree. Services are extremely expensive there and that's why people learn to do their own chores. My relatives who would call a plumber for the most minor of things in India, fixed clogged pipes themselves in Canada by looking at youtube videos.

Most of the time even more than the passive ones
