Does Mcgrath have any coaching credentials?? Being a great bowler and being able convey tips to young bowlers is two different things. Lillee has been pretty much a failure imo. In 25 years, his best bowlers were Zaheer, Srinath, and Prasad??! wtf! 25 years of mediocrity more like it. Any other country with such resources would have had a conveyor belt of quality fast bowlers coming out. So either the Lillee as coach a dud or entire set-up just isn't good enough. 25 years = Zaheer, Srinath, Prasad. :headshake:

AGREED. 80% of people who come out of MRF have back issues. Something is wrong. Lillee has been getting 200,000 a year for 25 years (5 million dollars) and we have no fast bowling legacy to show for it.

Now that, OZ is more number # 1, he figured he is not needed anymore in india.....just kidding.....good that he is gone...

I don't know why they assume fast bowlers know what it takes to bowl fast. Brett Lee was asked by a friend, and he said it all came from the non-bowling arm. No mention of using the hips. There are bowlers out there who know, Akthar, for one does. Ian Pont speaks highly of his knowledge. Someone like this guy http://www.youtube.com/user/twmatcham does, very similar to Ian Pont's way, but are differences.

Lee said that because he knows nothing about where speed comes from and that's what Lillee tries to coach and we know he knows little, if anything about where speed comes from. From your comment above, isn't Pont therefore the ideal person to be coaching our quicks?

No two actions are the same but they can be categorized into three categories, and depending on which category u fall in , some bowlers use the left feet more intelligently and lock it at landing and get the power from the hips, some use rhythm upper body and both hands more ,faster shoulder rotation, then the ones who are slingy and most prone to injury as the arm comes from around and puts more stress on the body. Some one like Dale Steyn seems to have a good action ,comparing him with Sreesanth who has a similar action but faults that can be corrected, I feel Ian Pont is an intelligent coach and his knowledge would be great for our bowlers also a coach can make a great difference see what Mc Dermott did for Aussies.

It might be satirical piece, but it's born out of the frustration that with all the top notch facilities the MRF academy in 25 years it hasn't produced a proper Test match strike bowler. I feel for the late Mammen Mappillai, who put so much money into it.

It shows it isn't the facility, the money or the concept that's important. What counts is the coaching. The reason MRF hasn't PRODUCED a proper test match strike bowler is directly due to the coaching. Claiming anyone who trained there, isn't the same as producing them. Lillee isn't and has never been someone who understands how to create or produce fast bowlers. Why would he? He isn't an expert in bowling actions or generating speed. I am fearful if McGrath takes over it will be even worse as he knows even less about teaching speed.

No bowler bowl slow by choice. They still try to bowl fast but that is what they are capable off and even then they can be wayward. Fast bowlers need to bowl good line and length as well.
