Greig tells India to put cricket before cash

Is India stopping other countries from using it? If they are that desperate to apply DRS then couldn't they just boycott India and pressure them into accepting DRS? They wont because they want our money both in IPL and International Cricket and the idiot Greig is the worst person to give advice on spirit of cricket. BCCI has its fault (numerous fault) but it is their job to make sure Indian perspective is heard in these meeting.

Interesting comment in cricinfo by someone

Tony..height of double standards man. 1) You say accuse India of extreme commercialization of the game then u yourself state how crucial it is for future of the game....2) You yourself say that Eng-Aus used to bully India earlier and India returning the favor now which is wrong as per you....if it wasn't wrong earlier when Eng used these tactics then why it wrong now when India doing same ?....3) You call IPL bad but at the same time you want England to start a similar league ? double standards or what Mr Grieg ?...... 4) You accuse IPL BUT at the same time you say IPL should be converted to Asian Premier League and India should share its revenue with SL, Pak & Bng....WHY ? Why should India do that. Did England did same to Ireland when it was financially good....or did Australia did same to NZ and SAF did same to Kenya when they were financially strong....then WHY should India do that ?......Why all moral responsibility should lie with India ???

This discussion reminds me of the scene from ShashiLal Nair's Angaar where Kader Khan (in one of his best roles) tells his gangster son (Mazhar Khan) - Kaun bolega? Kiski majaal hai is shahar mein ke Jehangir Khan aur uske bacchon ke khilaaf koi kuch bole? Kader Khan obviously being the BCCI. How stupid are we (Indians) that we keep defending BCCI simply because it is an "Indian' institution? Or do we show our patriotism this way? Suppose we can all agree that BCCI is a bunch of haramkhors who have done precious little to improve anything about cricket, even Indian cricket. Somehow BCCI also realize that it will screw is own biggest fans - Indians - and yet we are so deluded we would be up in arms supporting them. Jokers (us)!

According to Tony Sahib. India opposes DRS One, because its superstars had such an embarrassing experience with it in the early days Two, the BCCI argues that the DRS is too inexact He also wants india to share profits with pak, BD, SL ( dont we already do ?). comments section reveals a lot. Lots of pak and BD fans have wished that IPL is bad failed tournament, it will fail, it will end, tv rating dropping, its bad for cricket, india will buy wc,one BD guy even suggests boycotting India. Posted by Tauhidul Islam Khan Rashique on (June 27 2012, 10:22 AM GMT) I agree with Greig 100%. I urge all cricket boards and fans to boycott Indian cricket team for a year, and I mean it. Even Aus/SA guys are throwing in their few bits, knowing that they have 25% each of the profits and many players playing still want India down. lots of love from all around the globe. some pathetic pacifist indian are also saying encouraging words to all of this...amazing country we have.:two_thumbs_up:

except UDRS i dont blame BCCI. I know its easy and fashionable to blame BCCI if you are a paki but i am wondering why you are doing it being Indian. Indian test team is crap because our pitches dont prepare them for playing abroad, its not IPL. In UDRS BCCI shold have the basic administrative ability to negotiate, argue, they seem to be trying to stream roll everyone else thats the mistake. BCCI's concerns on UDRS are geneuin they can be corrected and UDRS can be implemented. They are giving a chance for little people like tony to bark on India, and also a chance for bleeding heart liberals from India to blame themselves for all ills in the world. If pak focusses on economy instead of terrorism then they will have more money so wont need India sponsoring them. Oh man i touched a sensitive subjest so i might actually get banned or my comment deleted soon in an "indian fans site "..but yeah there we go i said it. I love bleeding heart liberals.:cheer::cheer:

yeah bcci has done all wrongs. Giving money back to older players is wrong, giving too much financial security to first class cricketers is wrong. Paying for all cricketers medical bills is wrong.Paying selectors so they don't have do anything else is wrong. We should all kick BCCI for all its wrong doings.

Well bro I read your comments and agree before it gets deleted. The main issue everyone has with the BCCI is that its making money (thru Indian sponsors and Indian TV viewers) but is not sharing it with the whole world and subsidise their DRS.

Lurker, You are pretty much right. Two wrongs don't make a right I guess but I told in my earlier post ICF'ers are more castigating Grieg considering this previous alliances. But, amidst this emotional outburst some of us have lost the message. Even if you shoot the messenger, no point in shooting out the message - will do more harm than good. Remember that the world is round, once BCCI isn't in power the other boards may gang up on the BCCI too. We would lose any rights to complain about it.

I thiink its time India and loyal Indian fans stopped using all their sport time in cricket. We should probably pick other sports which have bigger and equal countries ( only one exits ). If the pathetic indian soccer team becomes world no 15 instead of 150, we dont have to put up with this horse crap from little people like tony and 400 million paki/BD haters or 100 million english hypocrites.

:hysterical::hysterical: I read the article on cricinfo 10 minutes back and came to ICF expecting exactly the kind of reaction that is there in this thread - "Watan Ke Rakhwaalon ne desh ki izzat bachane ke liye internetzzzz par dhaava bol diya hai!

For me problem is not his message. He does have some valid points that need to be addressed in very near future. Problem for a neutral like me is his own conduct during World series and ICL most recently.

I am no fan of Tony Greig - quite the contrary. However, that is a separate discussion and if you ask me someone who went on rebel tours implicitly supporting apartheid and who lured young cricketers into the ICL without even making an effort or guaranteeing that they were paid up later, should not have been giving the MCC spirit of cricket lecture. Even in his speech I find quite a few things which don't make sense, my amusement stems from the way my internet humvatanzzz react to such things. Guys like Greig and Vaughan, I believe, take the mickey out of such people deliberately by posting and quoting things to needle them and sit back and enjoy the fun.

So lets take them one at a time. Start with World Series cricket. How is that comparable to IPL? Before WSC players were being paid pittance. Players like Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev would save on laundry bills and wash their own clothes. In 1979 World Cup the winners, West Indies, won a grand total of 10,000 pounds. In IPL, a Ravindra Jadeja makes 100 times more money than West Indies winning team of Richards, Lloyd and pace battery. :hysterical::hysterical: Before WSC players were literally poor, prior to IPL players were well off anyway. See the difference?? :winky:

Quite true. Add to the list, Indian fans and Indian teams. Many neutral wouldnt give a damn, perhaps, of BCCI but they would be getting pretty miffed off at Indian fans boneheadedness. In a sense Indian cricket fan = Pakistan National. The latter kept denying how their country was in a mess and everything was a Zionist-Indian-American conspiracy. For the former everything comes down to goras being jealous of growth of India. Of course the subcontinent always hated India anyway...Duh!:secret:

What a joke...he wants BCCI to share its money with other countries...LOL....I want Tony to 1st share his money with other commentators. He critize BCCI for only thinking about IPL...& then he wants BCCI to expand IPL & make is APL (Asia Premier League). BCCI created IPL which has actually recognize cricketers value & then created CL...which allowed the top teams from different countries to clash against each other. I dont like BCCI....but the above statements make me laugh...& yes..I will like BCCI to agree to DRS.

Wealth is relative, but for me the primary difference between WSC and IPL is the emphasis on the core skills and format of cricket. IPL is played in a joke T20 format among 9-10 teams selected mainly from mediocre players whereas WSC cricket had a good mix of test matches and one day matches and was confined to 3 teams representing top notch talent from around the world, so much so that a lot of players involved in it call it the best and most competitive cricket they have played.
