CG Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Surely he is the most talented indian batsman regarding natural ability .He can play all shots in the book and is good allround and has a technique which is very good and has no pre determined movements.But he lacks in temperament currently and his casual attitude.

But Yuvi despite his talent is a huge failure in tests owing to his extremely bad defense. It all takes one or two basic weaknesses to stop you from growing.

One innings in a hopeless situation where Dhoni later mentioned pitch eased out later. The video i showed had plenty of short balls too where Yuvraj hit. Occasionally he gets surprised. How often Yuvraj actually got out to bouncers as against Rohit. Raina struggles against bouncers too. Ganguly does too. It is not like Rohit has 100% record against bouncers. He got worked over at Lords slope too. Edwards to RG Sharma, OUT, Undaunted by the pulled four, Fidel simply cranks up another short-pitched delivery from back of length.. Rohit is beaten for the pace and by the extra bounce, top edges the pull to square leg. Great start from Windies. Taylor served up a fiery first over and now, Fidel has started in a similar vein. Especially even if there is a millimeter of movement he is found wanting. You are only looking at the good innings he has played.. i am looking at the much larger chunk which is where he failed. Even Harbhajan singh, Ashwin had their own moments with bat. He is technically way too over-rated by his fans. Yuvraj in his very first much as an 18 year old batsman took on Mcgrath and won man of the match. Rohit is nowhere remotely close to Yuvraj in terms of talent.

Clearly Rohit has skill to do well against good bowlers in tough conditions. His 50 against SA on a green pitch in 2007 T20 Cup and this innings against Aus showed. He's not just a run of the mill FTB or a weak team bully a la Jadeja. He can do well against the better teams in testing conditions but he keeps on disappointing his supporters

Yup, a mental conditioning coach along with a sports psychologist should be hired by BCCI for the team in general and specifically for the likes of Rohit. While I agree,that naturally the mentally stronger will survive....but looking at Rohit,it is clear that most of his problem is in his head than his technique(debatable) As far as bringing in a sports pshycologist,every top team in other sports have these kind of training and atleast half of our team can use one Raina-Fear of playing shortballs Rohit-Fear of failure Sreeshanth,Ishanth-Lack of consistency or choking when the batsman counter-attacks Sehwag-Lack of concentration
vvvslaxman Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 My only gripe is he is getting more support than other players based on "talent" factor. If he is like 18 or 19 i wouldn't mind. But he is 25. batsmen are more matured around that age. His chances in the side should be based on merit not based on future predictions. We are doing no justice to other players. He could go on to become the finest modern era batsman. But at this point i feel he is getting everything easy. Make him work harder. It might be good for him and India.
