Jersey #10 Posted August 13, 2011 Author Posted August 13, 2011 Been saying it all the time: Yuvi over Raina in tests is a must. I would have agreed with you on that about two years ago. Things have changed and Raina is not the only batsman to have failed in this series. You can't sum it up based on this series.

Trichromatic Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 Like we say about India, it's not the defeat but the manner in which we were defeated. In the same way for Raina it's not the failure, but the manner in which he has failed puts question mark over his ability for test matches. Most of the other players have proved themselves in past, but Raina is a young. He doesn't look like a test batsman at all.

He is so bad, his average is worse than Praveen Kumar and only 3 runs better than Harbajan singh. :giggle: And he is the dude who is trying to establish himself in the team. All others in the top order have already proven themselves and are just having a bad series. This guy is just plain bad. The Realist Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 Raina needs to go back and play the longer form of the cricket - even then not sure how much that will help him. He looks aggressive and confident in ODIs and T20 but just does not inspire the same levels of confidence in tests. Best thing is probably a spell away from the national team and seek to improve his faults and see if can come back a better player. Deserves another chance further down the line if he shows improvement, especially considering all the lives the imposter Yuvraj has had and done nothing with them.
Karan114 Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 Although he is a player who fights it out under pressure, unfortunately that can only get you so far at Test level. His technique just isn't good enough at this stage. He showed good signs in WI but unfortunately it has been a return to the old problems here, though admittedly it has been in the midst of a horror tour in which the Indian team has completely fallen apart. After 14 Tests, one hundred and an average of 32 just doesn't cut it. Although its worth remembering the reason he was selected for England was that Virat Kohli was dreadful in the Caribbean. If Pujara is fit, I would select him for the WI series, and also get Rohit Sharma into the mix. As The Realist says, Raina really needs some hard cricket at FC level to tighten up his game - a county stint could be of real help.

He hasn't played many matches yet. He can go back and work on his technique. But that would be very difficult for him. If team persists with him and he gets chance on flat tracks then this he would miss chance to improve and he will be dropped after wasting few years in national team. I believe he is hard working and wants to be part of the team. So, he will try improve. It will be kind of favor for him if he is dropped. Currently his technique is not helping at all. He is too much afraid of short balls and can't play all the deliveries normally. He hardly comes forward to the normal good length balls and because of constant short ball issue, he fails to get on the top of the ball.

Yes the second innings should have been referred, but still.

The way he has played around with Indian attack, they wouldn't forget for years to come. The only laughing stock is India now.
