yep :) sehwag was never gr8 in odis hope people realize this
What are you on about :dontknow: Sehwag averages 35+ as an opener at a SR of 103 :omg: That's a better average and SR than the likes of Gilchrist & Jayasuriya.

If Jayasuriya and Gilchrist are called "greats" in odis so should be Sehwag. As I mentioned earlier the guy averages 35+ with a SR of 103 which is better than both Gilly and Jayasuriya. Plus you don't expect a batsman who bats at a SR of 103 to be as consistent as batsmn whose SR is in 80s  Sehwag's role in the team is to give a quick start and he has performed the role admirably and he's one of the most feared openers over the last 3 years or so.

Sehwag may make a big score once every series but Sehwag's quick 20s and 30s are more than useful. Take his WC semi final knock against Pakis. He only ended up scoring 30 odd but that innings made the difference. His quick 20s & 30s kick-start the innings and give us an impetus which our middle order batsmen are able to cash in on. In T20s this start would be even more useful. We need to find a similarly aggresiive opener at the top coz those days of 5 overs and the score of 9/0 is no longer an option.
But it was not his 30 that won us that game, quick 20s-30s will not take a team far, especially for an experienced player like him. Consistent batsmen are better than dashers, especially at the top to get a solid start.

sigh...man u dont become gr8 by looking at stats gilchrist played some amazing inningsi n every conditions plus he was wicket keeper and jayasuriya played in diff era imo when he was at his est no one did wht he did sehwag has jsut been good against mediocre sides at home nothing special away form home other then new zealand i havent seen the stats its jsut form memory u can check it for me ...dont have time now gotta study :P

Consistent batsmen are better than dashers, especially at the top to get a solid start.[/quote'] Every player in a team has a particular role. With Sehwag, his job is to give us a quick start where the RR is more than 6 after 6-7 overs. This start gives our batsmen to bide their time and get set without taking undue risks. With batsmen like SRT, Gambhir and Kohli in the top order, the onus is on Sehwag to score quickly at the top. Lower order batsmen like Dhoni & Raina are to give late acceleration. His role has been performed quite well by Sehwag and if he does go on to have a big innings it's a bonus for us as you don't expect a guy with a career SR of 100+ to play long innings and it's extremely unfair on the player as well. And yup his quick 30s do make a difference as he gives other batsmen time to get themselves in without worrying about the RR. Performances and stats do matter. If Gilly and Jayasuriya played match-winning innings so did Sehwag and at the end of the day it's all about runs scored where Sehwag doesn't lose much in comparison to Gilly & Jayasuriya.

man i have seen them all play jayasuriya in this decade was not gr8 earlier he was gilchrist man world cup final inning..and he was there even when conditions were hard how much is vaerage difference ? i honestly dont know lol

They haven't done anything at FC level to deserve an India call-up. If Unmukt Chand bats out of this world in the u-19 WC he may get on the fringes of the Indian team but Mandeep has to do a lot more to be considered for selection. And performance should be the only criteria for selection, not "seniority". P.S. - Don't ever mention Dinda in the First XI. It looks like a cruel and sick joke
But he's tailunted & he can jump + he's phaast

Rahane's catches were dropped 3 times when he scored 90 odd.....IN england also he was flashy like sehwag...If u get continuous 10 matches as opener 2-3 good innings as opener bound to come...how many continuous matches uthappa got as opener....he never got freedom like sehwag when he had freedom he was successful b4 2007 world cup...He failed in 3 matches in 2007 world cup and never got chance as opener..and now a days player like pappu vijay dhawan getting continuous chances and still failures..Uthappa always plays well in challenger trophy and what he got in last 4 years just 1 chance in t20...he was never a t20 player but IPL and selectors ruined his career.

even if u check IPL uthappa is good at scoring singles and doubles and building innings unlike other players mentioned...once he set he is dangerous like kohli....he is fit for odi format...but luck matters a lot..he got chances when sehwag and sachin were established openers and when he was not matured b4 23..

I had a doubt, but now thanks for confirming that Robin Uthappa has an ICF id.

rahane >mandeep anyday and have u really seen chand bat?
Mandeep is 3 years younger, remember Kohli was no where near what he is now at 20. You haven't seen him other than IPL so :finger: Same FC average. Lets see how they go in NZ A tour. Rahane failed in tour games in Aus, maybe he is not as good as you think. Also why is Rahane so far ahead according to you?
He will be our best bat in 3-5 years ' date=' subject to hes given a run of 6-8 matches at some point .[/quote'] This

rahane and nohit should be given test chances as they have fc performances and they deserve a chance at least. unmukt and mandeep will anyway get chances in 3-4 years when viru and srt retire.

Mandeep seems better than Rahane. I have seen Rahane bat a bit in IPL, apart from those 2 100s he struggled a bit. Not that impressed as i was before. Whereas Mandeep scored more consistently.
