surajmal Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 By state support, I mean support from an organization that has the means to finance, recruit personell (the required skills would not be easy to find), have secure facilites and the means to transport the bomb across the borders ( It is pointless for any part of the establishment to detonate weapons in their own borders). If such an entity was supporting it, then yes stealing nukes and building bombs would be possible, but that would constitute an act of war, not one of terrorism. The dirty bomb scenario is based on a bunch of taliban terrorists able to crack into secure nuclear facilities, steal the enriched uranium, assemble a weapon from it, smuggle it into the United states and then detonate it, something that becomes progressively more difficult with each stage. 9/11 pales in comparison to the kind of resources that would be needed to carry out something on this scale. They won't have to steal. Hamid Gul is ex military, right? and that guy puts 99% of Mullahs and Jihadis to shame when it comes to hatred towards everything kaafir. Radicalization of Pak Army has only increased over the last decade and a half as reported from every insider.
panther Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 yh yh whatever terrorist going to capture nukes.
punjabi_khota Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 steal nuclear bomb ? What is this, a bond movie ?
Pioneer Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 True, there may be some "radical" elements in the army, but do you think that they would be in such positions of authority that they would be able to leak the colour of the bomb let alone components ? Secondly, I would like to know where the Pakistani Taliban receive their training from as well as their weapons. This is an honest question from my side, I don't mean to cause any offense. They want Shariah Law in Pakistan, how does that benefit the army or the government ?
dial_100 Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 I am very surprised by this question of how Taliban receives support and training. They are experienced in Militancy and handling of weaponry for over 2-3 decades now. If they are in existence for such a long time that they have means of financially supporting themselves as well. Pak government going against them has been viewed as a submission of Pak govt to West to act against them. Obviously, this Taliban thinks that what Pak government is doing is wrong and thats why they are going against them. Nobody but Taliban itself is recruiting and training these rookies. After all cost of new recruits cannot be that high for the operations in Pak. Why is that people of Pak looking for any conspiracies here. It is very difficult for country like India to support any external activity, I must say. Other than Swiss bank and other black money, I dont see any secrecy is possible with the kind of government we run. So I will totally rule out India from any involvement here. I wish that God almighty, the Great Allah saves all his children all over the world. But Pak needs more action, more is expected from the people, guide your youngs to save their future. i hope some wisdom prevails there.

Ok.. say they are getting those from US or India.. but then my question is why did pak govt letting that happen? It is happening now too.. why pak govt letting US drones inside pak? I know you dont have that option but that's the reality of the situation.. you've (govt and ppl) created such situation where you need help from outside.. and there are consequences for getting that help.

Do you guys deny that the AQ Khan network was responsible for nuclear proliferation which must obviously be approved from the highest levels in your administration ? It must have been a very profitable venture, so am i to believe all the hot shots involved in the dealing were simply fired one fine day or started regarding the NPT as the guiding force of their lives ? Your intelligence agencies should know a lot about the TTP and if it is indeed funded/supported by external groups/nations, a valid case can be made at the UN.

I know you dont have that option but that's the reality of the situation.. you've (govt and ppl) created such situation where you need help from outside.. and there are consequences for getting that help. You make it seem like its an easy thing to stop it from happening, for example they may be getting their stuff through Afghanistan, making it hard for the Pakistani gov. to stop them. The drone issue really isn't something that the US is going to drop, its worked for them in eliminating many senior Taliban members as well as virtually eliminating the core of Al Qaeda from Asia, so they will have no intentions of stopping them. The Pakistani government may pick and choose between different terrorist groups but for them the TTP are enemy number 1.

Don't disagree with what you said regards AQ Khan, there may or may not have been knowledge at the top but the fact is that AQ Khan was a respectable scientist, a national hero. How does that relate to letting a bomb fall in the hands of some lunatics. As I said, there would be no one radical enough to have any knowledge or capabilities of giving out nuclear components.

Sigh I know but the reality is that right now, it will take alot to get them to stop drone strikes, atleast from the current government's point of view. The next government may take a different stance and then we can see what may happen in Pakistan without US presence.

Pakistan is dependent on the USA for aid. If China pledges aid, Pak will happily show the finger to the US, but the fact is that China has always shied away from financial assistance and Pakistani government has no choice but to toe the US line. The US too will extract its pound of flesh for the tons of money its handing over. Hence the public display of bravado while silently agreeing to all demands behind closed doors. That being said, they do have certain boundaries they wont cross, most of them having to do with the India policy, but other than that everything is on the table.

If you're suggesting they went about the business of nuclear proliferation secretly without Musharraf's or the respective ISI chief's knowledge, that's even worse. The question is not about Khan's patriotism but how far he (and others) could go to make a quick buck. What i have been trying to suggest so far is that the nuclear proliferation racket was run with tacit approval from the top and that there has to be multiple higher ups who made good money from the business. Should we trust the same Army leaders that this business was fully cleaned up in the interests of the global community ? That the same leaders will not sell anything to smaller groups, they deal only with dictators & foreign govts. As an Indian i am not so sure.
