saket123 Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Ganguly true to his home state Bengal , is acting like a commie. Only on India people seem to make such a big deal about players' retirement.
The Dark Horse Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 People blame all and sundry in the Indian team but when someone tells something against their warrior Dhoni, they just can't take it :acute:
pensionplan Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 This guy Ganguly is a disgrace to be honest. Shut the eff up and get ready for another edition of IPL coming up in about 8 months and screw the team you play for, which by the way you did in 4 previous years.
Raghav_12 Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 A couple of flaws in your argument... 1. Ganguly was a specialist batsman and his job is to score runs whereas Dhoni is a wk-batsman who bats at 7. It would be unrealistic to expect Dhoni to perform as a specialist batsman. Currently Dhoni averages 37 with the bat which is what I would expect from a no. 7. Anything in 30s should be more than enough from your wk. Dhoni's WK skills are so mediocre that it wouldn't have got him a place in test team, forget about test captain. That's why he was always expected to play a role of proper batsman (and for the same reason he tries his hands at bowling as well, though occaasionaly :winky: ). It's not unrealistic to expect Dhoni to play a role of batsmen, unrealistic is to expect that Dhoni can be in the team only for his gloves work. 2. The surmise that other batsmen would have scored runs had Dhoni scored runs. Dravid scored 3 100s and was outstanding in the Eng series. Did it rub off on his colleagues? Or were the other batsmen saying "Nope that won't do. We only want the captain to score and we wil only take the cue from the captain even if he's not the specialist batsman. We are the specialist batsmen and Dravid is showing us how to bat but we will only follow the captain." Yes, Captain is there for a reason. He is leader of the team and his good performance should inspire team more than others. Otherwise, why there is a captain? To call at toss and to give press conference?

Dhoni's keeping isn't as mediocre as you are making it out to be. I have seen likes of Karthik and Saha keep at the same level or lower. Dhoni's more than decent at keeping and doesn't cost us games doing so. Captain is not there to score runs and take wkts for others. There's a reason you have batsmen in the team. Captains can and do make a difference but not the way you are suggesting. If there's one criticism of Dhoni I would make it would be his defensive field settings especially against lower order. He let the opposition take singles without any risk and didn't attack enough. But the suggestion that the batsmen not scoring runs is Dhoni's fault is laughable.

That beside, Dhoni also failed as a batsman. You may talk about his 37 average, but that is highly inflated because of his useless innings in India where he averages 43. He averages 18 in Australia, 31 in SA and 22 in WI. Those are the real numbers.
rkt.india Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 People forgetting Dhoni had more half centuries than most our top order batsmen in those 8 tests. His captaincy was poor but our bowling attack was poor in England, just average in Australia.

He comes at no 7 when the ball and pitch would have eased out and mostly his scores when match was over.Last 2 years he averages 28 with the bat.you can give any wicket keeper a chance he would not do any worse.

So you believe saha keeping standard is same to dhoni. How many catches has dhoni let go between himself and first slip.If you do not even attempt catches doe snot mean you are great.
Sean Bradley Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 This Dada is really going the Arjuna Ranatunga and Bishan Singh Bedi Way , what a crib king hes turning out to be :omg:

[2] If 1 is true, the logical converse of it would be Zaheer's non-performance to be blamed on DhONI. I would anyways like to see 1 though. AFAIK, people may have credited Dhoni for "rotating bowlers" and not Zaheer's wickets which are chalk & cheese.

If India wins, its because of Dhoni, If it loses its because the team didn't play well:winky:

He comes at no 7 when the ball and pitch would have eased out and mostly his scores when match was over. nopes by the time he comes in second new ball is taken in england he got out many times playing against second new ball most of the time he has no clue playing against new ball

yoda Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 So Saurav, did you communicate well in advance your plans for VVS in the ODI scene before he was dumped for the 2003 WC?
rkt.india Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 But didnt you belive that we had a better bowling attack than Australia. No. Where did I say we had better bowling attack than Australia.

And when fans of a team expect a #7 batsman to do the job of top order batsmen then you can understand what would be the fate of that team.
