Sandeep Sharma, a very good head on his shoulder. Really hope he gets opportunities to develop his game further through Ranji and A tours. He was India's player of the tournament.

He'll also hang around fringes of Indian team the way Rohan Gavaskar did just coz of his dad and his dad's connections. Every single former intl cricketer's son either made it to under-age team for India or the state team despite being not very good. The list includes Angad Bedi, Kunal Lal, Stuart Binny, Rohan Gavaskar, Junior Cheeka etc. :(( Nepotism and regionalism has been our bane and I hope the next selection panel doesn't make the same mistakes

my favorite bowler out of the bunch was RAVI CAN'T SINGH, aka ravikant. this guy was what i like to call a 'control' bowler...i.e. you can give him the ball at any stage of the game and count on him to keep it tight, plugging away outside off-stump and tying down the batsman. he also got just a bit of movement away from the right hander, good control on length, which makes him a wicket-taking option as well. such a skilled bowler for his age. i hope they dont waste him.

...the tantalising talents of Indian left-arm orthodox spinner Harmeet Singh. He bowls like Bishen Bedi, with that same natural flight and guile that would right now place him as the best spin bowler in any Test side bar England. Harmeet has the skills to be a successful spinner, and only needs to develop the necessary temperament to handle the tough environment of international cricket and have a sympathetic captain.

The other U-19 player in that category is the India captain Unmukt Chand. He's a very talented batsman and should also be consistently plying his trade at a higher level. Both Harmeet and Chand have played first-class cricket but it isn't doing their games any good to participate in an U-19 World Cup even if it does help India win the trophy. There's always a temptation to win another trophy but it mustn't be done at the cost of a young player's development. Rodney was right. Players must be chosen for their skill level, not their age.

India are the envy of the other major nations. Their best young batsmen - in Townsville and at home - are technically better than most of their counterparts from the other Test-playing nations. All that Indian players need is regular exposure to bouncy surfaces against strong opposition and the national team's recent travails in England and Australia will soon be a thing of the past.

I have said this before Chand should have at least been in the ODI and T20 squad at the start of this year or the India A tour to WI, along with Suryakumar Yadav. Chand's fantastic century against Austtralia U19 in Australia against an attack that included Patrick Cummins and Sandhu should have given enough confidence to selectors to take a punt on him. On Harmeet, I am not sure, he hasn't played enough first class games. Hopefully he has good Ranji season and then take it from them. more from Chappell on Harmeet:

Young batsmen who have to face the likes of Harmeet Singh are going to need sharp footwork and agile brains. I don't see the current method where a young player has to endure hours of structured net sessions and endless deliveries from a bowling machine producing batsmen with those capabilities.

Also :hatsoff: to England's opening quicks Topley and Overton, can definitely see Topley play for England sometime next year. Both were quick and hostile (sometimes understandably erratic in line), regularly touching 145kph, and sometimes passing 150kph!!

To me Chappell makes perfect sense. I mean Chand already has 3 100s in 3 major u-19 tourneys. What more can he achieve at u-19 level? Harmeet has also looked class apart. Surely there's not much gainsaying in continuing to play him at the same level.

Compared to other U-19 peers, this boy seems to be on a completely different plane, both from physical game perspective and a mental awareness perspective (95% of junior cricketers lack one of the two). I dont see the value of letting him meander around pointlessly in junior cricket anymore. And besides, he's already 19, which is old enough to be a regular part of international cricket.

The ODI team cannot have 18 players (including Suryakumar Yadav and Mandeep Singh). Chand should play Ranji/Duleep and Vijay Hazare consistently, do well in all the A-tours and wait for his chance. There's plenty of cricket ahead of him and he's not going away anywhere.

he is already in A team :) will tour new zealand would be good test playing proper first class matches away from home on tough tracks if he does wel there no one is gonna stop him cos he already has lot of hype around him
