One has to admit that most communities' date=' at some point of time, must have allowed marriages between close cousins, especially given that in old times inter-community marriages were not allowed. Every single new community must have had to marry within the community itself in order to grow and survive. There still exist many communities that prefer to marry within the community just to ensure growth of the community. [b']And no, evolution does not necessarily wipe them out because most of these communities have grown pretty well. What did people do when some of them migrated and started living next to a new water body? They had to marry within the community and within years, everybody would be related to each other in some way. And still the married within the community and grew in numbers.
The fact that inbreeding causes congenital defects is exactly the way Darwinism works. The time scales maybe longer or shorter, but you can't beat Darwin. If you keeping ****ing your cousins, Darwin WILL **** you.

lack of awareness is the main concern in this issue
+1
I fell in love with my grandmother's brother's grandaughter... Now after reading this thread I am worried :(
That means you now aware of it. This is a vast social issue, that not something excpected to be refined in a day to two. There is nothing wrong in fall in love that creates a consanguineous relation. Just have an extra special care on kids, who may victim of reduced/inimmunity of some deseases in future thats all. This becomes more problematic actually for creless parents, not the awared caring ones.
This article is full of lawlz. 'Islam allows you to marry anyone you want, so in many ways Islam promotes diversity. Is like saying 'Islam allows girls to live, so in many ways Islam promotes gender equality.' And common surnames do not suggest inbreeding in south-Asia. aamir Khan, salman Khan SRK and KRK are not related nor are Utpal Dutt and Sunil Dutt.
This issue aint about Islam. In countries with regimes that women and children do not have a voice, are most likely to engage in non-consensual or cultural incest.
Cultural or Witnesses Based Observation - Well known in the Incest Community High Rates of non-consensual incest as chronicled by some organizations: India | RAHI (Recovering and Healing from Incest) Foundation, Cultural Russia, Romania, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Hungary | Major Consensual Incest Porn Production Industry, Consensual Incest Tourism Destination, Family Sex Trafficking Businesses (non-consensual). Middle East, Afghanistan, Turkey | In Afghanistan, it is common for boys experience incest or sexual abuse by males with the knowledge of their fathers, up to the age of 13 when the technically become men. It is seen as a rite of passage. Based on the account women and girls, 78% have been exposed to prolonged incestuous contact. Women and children often time are beaten or killed if they would dare complain, in honor killings. They keep silent and at some level engage as something normal because of its cultural pervasiveness. This has also been observed by NGO's and military personnel. According to Turkish government reports of the documented abuse cases;18% of minors have been documented as victims of sexual abuse in Turkey. Social Services and Child Protection Agency (SHŽÃ‡EK). Consensual incest is widely accepted to be a very high figure. Permissive Governments and Havens for Consensual Incest
  • Regarding Russia, India, Japan, Belgium, France, Brazil, Portugal, Holland (Netherlands), Romania, Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria, Israel; consensual Incestuous Families have for long, favored these countries as places to meet up with others who practice the same. http://wikiislam.net/wiki/Cousin_Marriage_in_Islam please go to science and statistics section. this site is run by muslims. by the way we live in india and we dont need proofs to proove our social life.we all know muslims have very very large cousin marriages.please dont act naive:sniffle:
you got me there; I act naive coz I liked to focus on another fact related to this (meant to be fun post that beetle picked it easy). Before saying "75 % marriages in muslim community are cousin marriages" you should say that you were talking about Pakistan (as per your source). pravinkataria allready found it provocative due it, & I'm not any mood in advocacy to defend Muslim/Islam in here.

I'm surprised some folks on ICF didn't know about the cons of inbreeding Btw, knew about Muslims marrying cousins, etc but didn't know about that it is prevalent in the South of India.

Even Khap panchayats are aware of the issue. But secular media always terms it as backward people against love marriages. Fv ckin idiots this lot. Edit: Among Jats, you are not suppose to marry anyone from your own village. It is a hard and fast rule. So atleast Jat community was against incest (or incest like) relations from the get go. Whether they knew the scientific reasons behind it is another matter.

It is not that common anymore, yes still happens but far less in number mainly because people of the newer generation find it a yucky proposition to marry your own cousin.

The website you provided doesn't have any numbers on consanguineous marriages among Muslims in India. The abstract of this research pegs that number at 22% which seems more realistic than the 75% that you put forth. I'm guessing the prevalence of consanguineous marriages marriages is more prevalent among the villages of the north, raising the overall percentage. In Urban settings, you hardly see anyone who marries among first/second cousins. Its jeevansaathi or muslimmatrimony zindabad mainly.

wikiislam is not run by muslims' date=' u dumba**[/quote'] dont shoot the messanger..please focus on the message. if the stats on that site were to be wrong...muslims whould have taken fatwa against it(salman rusdie, taslima nasreen:orderorder::orderorder:):hysterical:

If you keeping ****ing your cousins, Darwin WILL **** you.[/quote'] The phenomenon is called "inbreeding depression". Your mention about Darwin reminds me of the fact that Darwin himself did not escape from Darwinism. Darwin married his first cousin and had ten children. Three children died early. Other three were not able to have kids despite being married for a long time. Frequent cousin to cousin marriages in Darwin's family had let to immunity disorders which not only resulted in various illnesses but also increased the odds of infertility. It is ironical that Darwin experienced this in his own family, since he was one of the first scientists to demonstrate experimentally that inbreeding in plants resulted in harmful effects for future generations.

Ya. Khaps are freaking great. Kil the couple so there won't be any children. Na rahegi baans as the saying goes. :isalute: just admire the way they get to the root of the problem.

I don't know about Haryana Jats' date=' but in Punjab even the surnames have to be different even if they are from a different village/city[/quote'] yeah, that's true in Punjab...this was the practice even if we go back a couple of generations.

If you keeping ****ing your cousins, Darwin WILL **** you.[/quote'] Darwin himself married his first cousin. Also, the risk of kids being born with a genetic disorder when parents are first cousins is 7%- 8%, while the risk in kids born when parents are unrelated is 5%. So the difference is not as drastic as some here might think. But even so, its substantial enough to justify some kind of government led initiative to educate the general public in afflicted areas and communities. http://www.usatoday.com/news/science/2002-04-04-cousins.htm
