zep1706 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 When will Sachin retire? I think he might be planning to retire after the Australia home series. Don't see him going beyond that frankly. Even to stick around till then he needs to perform well in the upcoming tests. Otherwise cannot justify his place given there are so many youngsters in the waiting. If he doesn't score who knows the series against England could be his last.
zep1706 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 As for Strauss, I have a lot of respect for him, took over the captaincy when England were down and turned it around, won #1 rank, 2 Ashes(home and away), scored some important runs, played 100 tests. All in all a wonderful career. Congrats to him.
PaceAttack Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Wow..It seems like yesterday he started playing... I remember chatting with my friends few years back that guys like Strauss, Raina, Dhoni, are gonna be the future stars...!!!
Sachin=GOD Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Shocking news. I always admired him as a player and a Captain.
Trichromatic Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Sabby, Why are so determined to put strauss down? He averages over 40 in test matches and has been a very good servant to English cricket and on top of that is a nice guy who never seems to have a bad word to say about the opposition. No-one is saying he is an all time great but on his day he was certaintly a very good opener. I also admire the fact that he doesnt hang around when he realises he's on a downhill slope, unlike say ponting and even I hate to say it on here Laxman who both should have retired a long while ago. Discussion is about whether Strauss took right decision or he chickened out when he could have played for few years more.
Lord Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 KP's main grouse was against Strauss.maybe he'll come back
maverick451 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 You are English supporter right? You happy that Strauss quit or you wanted him to continue till KP saga is over and Cook has got enough time to take over. Neither really, On one hand he's been captain of a very decent period of English cricket and its sad to see that era end but on the other hand I think he would have struggled in India and this gives someone else a chance. My top 6 going into the Indian tour would be as follows. Cook Trott Bell KP Bairstow Taylor
CG Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Good decison his batting had gone down and great time to rebuild.

maverick451 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 will KP make it I dont think so unfortunately (he's just 163 of 168 fr his county), Flower is a bit of a grumpy headmaster, he's determined to humiiliate KP

maverick451 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I dont know, Nick compton has done very well this year and his name has been mentioned a few times. (averages about 80 odd in div 1) He plays for somerset though which is a bit of a road

putrevus Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 so what will happen to grand plan of dominating world cricket for a decade of Messrs Botham and Hussain. This was pretty much view of every body in English media. With KP out and wow Strauss gone how exactly is that plan going to work.
King Tendulkar Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I have to say strauss ia nice guy who i like and has done decent job as skipper. Plus a decent if not great player. But his decsion to quit now is weak and shows lack of stomach. First sign of difficulties and he throws in the towel and no desire to fight back after KP affair or fight to get form back.
