What's wrong with Tendulkar's batting?

I think Tendu just needs clarity off the field. He really needs to decide if he is going to play both ODIs and Tests. If he decides to play both, then he should be available for every series in both formats. I personally feel (like many at ICF) he needs to call it quits for ODIs and totally focus playing Tests along with Ranji cricket. He still has the game for Tests just needs to direct all his concentration into Test batting, right now he is just bouncing around in cloud nine taking paid vacations, choosing to play the odd ODI series, watching Roger Federer etc. Ricky Ponting in this regard is setting a good example playing Sheffield Shield and Tests only.

Like the saying goes the lamp shines its brightest before it flames out ,Tendulkar played his best before year leading to world cup and during it. It would have been perfect ending then but he choose to fade slowly into oblivion rather than walking out while still on top. It is highly unlikely he will ever be good again.

of course its age taking it's toll now. he will be 40 years old in april. i think he will call it a day after england.
No he won't. On what basis are you saying that? This guy looks like he'll play on and on for no reason at all, even if he doesn't score runs. And yes, ODIs too. God help us. (And I mean the real God!)

VVS Laxman too used to have such breaks. He was not even playing ODIs' date=' but still did well. These are just excuses.[/quote'] VVS used to play local club matches or Ranjis? :dontknow:.Sachin just oversetimating his greatness by straight away walking into an intl game at this age

38 year old, highest run getter in the test calender. Scores first ODI double century of the history and didn't need a runner. 2nd highest run getter in the world cup. Its something other than age I feel.
It was the ****ing mahashatak hype In 2009-2011 Sachin was batting like a dream(in both tests and odis) then suffered a huge mental block, now he's gone into post tennis elbow accumulator mode, which aint working.
+1 He needs to change his approach. Probably thinks he has to bat more carefully now that RD and VVS are gone but its not working for him. He's just not that type of player. Also he should just retire from ODI's, concentrate on tests. He can still play for a year or two.

He did not have any clue against Nathan Lyon in Australia at Adelaide.[/quote'] And Tendulkar was still the second highest scorer in that series for India :cantstop: Every cricketer has a purple patch and a ough patch. Isn't it obvious that he can have one too, even then, he avergaes close to 50 in Tests and 40 in ODIs. Its amazing how people get convinced in just a couple of failures :headshake:

But he is not doing team any good. First test it was Pujara, now it is Virat. Too many walking wickets making this team a sinking ship.

Yup, another good point. It feels in both his innings he has self-burdened himself for "the need to be there". Which is actually making things worse for him and the team. Hopefully he can reflect back on these two matches and see that both Pujara and Kohli are very capable batsmen. I also I believe if one of Gambhir and Sehwag can fire it will allow Tendulkar to play more "naturally"

Couple of failures? Average of mid 35s in Aus and England were successes for you? Two of the players did not succeed there have already retired. A younger player like Rahane would not do any worse and will learn too.

SO what do you want? Player to retire after two not so good series? Give me a break man, I am sure he has a lot more to offer. Tomorrow if he comes out and decides o call it a day, I will salute his decision, but we can't decide when should he retire.

So Sachin should retire and Gambhir should play on just because the difference is age? Sachin did score some fluent 90's in between. If form is the basis, Sehwag, Gambhir should be replaced as well, might as well play India A team then? :giggle:

Today, he got out while playing shot, not defending. He can still play a good innings here and there but few and far between.

Gambhir should be dropped too. We would have played this series with whole new bunch of batsmen with much difference because the ones who scored runs are also newbies.

England series will do all doodh ka doodh and pani ka pani.

If Rahane had played in this series in place of him, he would not have done anything worse.

You people tlk about Tendulkar like ordering at Udipi. :) I don't want him to leave now. But he hold give a time line. Way it is heading right now it could be brutal exit.
We still want him in the team because he can guide youngsters and will be happy to be proven wrong if he can get his runs and consistency back at least till SA tour next year, but right now, it is embarrassing to see him bat. Even these would be wondering.
