Sehwag1830 Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 Captain WK is this a new category ? Like Wasim Akram best left arm bowling all rounder ? :P Considering that very few wicket keeper have been captain , i would say yes . :--D
deathmonger Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 when did I say names of Dahiya, Ratra etc. Engineer, Kirmani, More and Mongia were all better keepers than Dhoni. Engineer and Kirmani kept to our spin quartet, which was extremely difficult, all while maintaining a very good batting average for their eras. As a batsman, Mongia was worse than Dhoni, he was just below average. More's average of 27 is less than Dhoni but he batted in difficult batting conditions compared to today hence the difference is much lesser than what you can take from the numbers alone. Karthik is a more accomplished with the bat in difficult conditions than dhoni though he sucks with the gloves so I dont even count him in the list. Wow. Really . So Dhoni is better than Prior and De Villiers? prior yes. abdv no u know abdv's avg as wk? :giggle: the fact that even someone like abdv is struggling due to wk duties shows being a wk-bat is not easy.
GautiMaan Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Did Dhoni not score runs when it was required of him today. He could be lethal if the top order gets alteast some runs Ofc he averages 38 by scoring runs when it was not required:laugh:
The Outsider Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 I think this guy is the greatest captain goalkeeper - the right category of comparison for Dhoni:
rkt.india Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Most wins for Dhoni at home beating Azhar.
Ultimate_Game Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Greatest captain wk and also the greatest Indian wk batsman :two_thumbs_up:
Sid Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 I think this guy is the greatest captain goalkeeper - the right category of comparison for Dhoni: Yaar he is not great in wicketkeeping skills but definitely not as bad as you make him out to be.
Number Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 224 dismissals in 127 innings. Next 198 in 151 innings by Kirmani. If we see dismissals per innings MSD beats Engineer, More , Kirmani by some margin. Is it because our bowlers have made rapid improvement and they create so many chances these days that it allows MSD to drop a lot of chances, let many of them to go to slips and hold on to a few and still have best d/i.
Sidhoni Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 too early to call. :haha: 4 years are not enough.!

Errr.....yeah.....some obvious factors: 1. Dhoni keeping to more pace bowlers. 2. India playing more tests at places like Australia, England, and South Africa.
The Outsider Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Yaar he is not great in wicketkeeping skills but definitely not as bad as you make him out to be. As I said in some other thread, if India are to play a mediocre keeper he has to be judged as a specialist batsman like Dravid was in ODIs.
Sehwag1830 Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 Even as batsman Dhoni's average is comparable to Dravid, Azhar . Then you will say those average don't matter as it was cheap runs and he got chance on no balls http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?captain=1;class=1;filter=advanced;orderby=batting_average;qualmin1=25;qualval1=matches;team=6;template=results;type=batting
Sid Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 As I said in some other thread' date=' if India are to play a mediocre keeper he has to be judged as a specialist batsman like Dravid was in ODIs.[/quote'] Sorry beg to differ here,he is more than a mediocre keeper.

Even Dhoni would laugh at that.
The Outsider Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 So now Dhoni's test batting is comparable to Dravid and Azhar? Even Dhoni would laugh at that. He hasn't figured out how to differentiate formats on stats guru yet. :hysterical:
Ultimate_Game Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 So now Dhoni's test batting is comparable to Dravid and Azhar? Even Dhoni would laugh at that. Not as much as More & co. would laugh hearing they are better than Dhoni :haha:
Sehwag1830 Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 So now Dhoni's test batting is comparable to Dravid and Azhar? Even Dhoni would laugh at that. Are you forgetting Dhoni is captain too ? :hysterical::hysterical: Who knows how much he would have averaged had he not been captain ? :hysterical: Gilchrist averages 33 as captain.:cantstop:
