People are overly harsh on Yadav, he did bowl awfully in the 1st innings of 2nd match, but other then that he has done the minimum that was required. He was hardly required in the 1st Test, and got us the two openers cheaply in that critical NZ 2nd innings on a good batting surface, which only someone with decent pace could have managed, to allow the spinners to attack straight away. And Yadav picked up a wicket in every innings as opposed to Zaheer Khan who has had a stinker of a series in home conditions and not discounting Zaheer's brain fart batting displays despite his seniority. Hell even Steyn in his early years had an economy over 4 rpo!

One of the reasons Yadav has been rated poorly is the number of runs he leaked whenever he bowled. There were half volleys and down the leg cr@p nearly every over and even on a helpful track he leaked runs at the rate of 4.5. If he had conrolled the runs better and had a better ER he would have been rated higher. I mean you can't concede runs at an odi rate in a Test and that too in a low scorer where pitch has something in it for bowlers.

Definitely he needs to improve on that and bring the ER below 4. But having said that, for now I am not overly concerned with it as long as the others, especially Ashwin and Ojha are keeping things tight (i.e. ER

Put Sehwag in the 2nd category.
But his inability to score a big innings and throwing his wkt away after being set means that he's closer to the 2nd category than the 1st.
UG for you he maybe a non-performer but for me he was one of the better performers. Its about what we expect from a certain player. I have maintained before the start of this series that Sehwag will convert only 1 out of 5-6 innings but his role is more about providing starts in each innings he bats and for me he has done that for India every time this series. Every Guy in a team is assigned a role and this certainly is the role for Sehwag in the side. If he converts even 3 innings in all of the 10 tests and gives us a good start in the rest I would be happy and I am sure all the team members will be happy too. Plus he took some brilliant catches in this series. I loved watching him and hence he is a performer for me.

Also credit to Jeetan Patel, people keep calling him an ordinary spinner, but he came into this Test series of the back of very good County season playing for Warwickshire, where he had totally outbowled Bhajji :hehe:.

Yadav had the best SR (59) amongst the all the quicks bar Southee, Zaheer's strike rate of 120 was piss poor. I would be very disappointed if Yadav was discarded on this series performance. His performance in 1st innings in 2nd match is being unfairly portrayed as his overall performance.
He wont be discarded .. he did well but not upto what was expected off him. He was not penetrative enough but showed enough signs of talent and hence will keep his place in the side.

He was bowling straight without giving room and getting the ball to drift in. Controlled tight aimed at tying the batsmen at the crease and off the backfoot bowling of the kind that reminded me of Anil Kumble today.

Batting 4th, chasing 250+ , Sachin had just gotten out. Pressure plays a big part. Didn't he score 150+ just a test back. :facepalm: + Give some credit to Patel. He bowled well, iirc he bowled some darts before flighting that delivery foxing Pujara. Whats with those OTT judgement based on 1 test.

Need to change our Test Strategy Why isn't think tank doing something about it. Our terrible performance outside of subcontinent can be safely attributed to our openers and their form mainly. On very seaming and bouncy conditions, we want to totally demoralize bowling unit by showing that we will middle the ball no matter what. Too many hit & miss is not helping our team. And Gambhir is totally taking few leaves out of Sehwag's book as far as early aggression is concerned. It creates lot of trouble. The problem with think tank is they are still living in a dreamy world that sehwag can hammer the opposition with 100-200 and set a game right a way but that has only happened about half a dozen times, but when he has failed miserably put us in to big troubles with his approach. As in the following cases, When top order like Dravid, Sachin are out of form, he exposes them very early in the innings. Opposition bowlers have now figured out the fact that sehwag will eventually get himself out so they are patient with him even though he is scoring rapidly. Lower order under pressure succumb to huge pressure even though the bowling side is tired after bowling 40-50 overs. No one out there to take advantage of that and playing carefree Here is what I think can be changed in a long run. Gambhir is young and needs someone as a partner to steady him. With sehwag he gets too much excited and loses his cool. Sehwag's wicket has often forced him to drastically change the gears and momentum is lost right after a wicket. Get Rahane to open with Gautam Gambhir. And replace Raina with Sehwag ahead of Kohli at that position. Sehwags carefree style will suit us in every situation no matter what. He will get to come in after good 30 overs are bowled. A tired fielding captain will quickly go on defensive once sehwag starts scoring. With him, VK & MSD can change the gears at will, giving lot of flexibility. This will strengthen the middle order as well as the lower middle order. Rahne Gambhir Pujara Sachin Sehwag Kohli Dhoni

Is it going to be a problem?i have not seen him play in domestic cricket but Jeetan patel is an ordinary bowler and he should not have any difficulties against him.
Same Pujara played same Patel at Hyderabad without any concern on a more turning track.
