We wont the CL in SA and reached the semis of IPL so how did Dhoni flop :dontknow: Also we have won ODI series in NZL Aus WI countries were we didnt usually even compete before.ANd we have owned Srl in Srl so much so that they look like a minnow to us but in truth before Dhoni's captaincy we never won a ODI series in Sri Lanka. And at home its not even a discussion.We have thrased every team in ODIs in India under Dhoniwhereas before Dhoni we were at best average even at home.Lost to Aus almost often and even lost ODI series to likes of Pakistan and west indies.FFS i remember as losing 2 ODIs in a 5 match bilateral series against Zimbabwe at home.

As already mentioned the IPL/CL 20 was just a comment said in jest...so great Dhoni won CL abroad Aus record under Dhoni in India is 4-4 and that team was not even their superstar team btw and against SA it is 2-2

Doesn't matter...Bottom line is we lost....what about T20 WC's.....shuldn't he have stepped down from that format after 2 consecutive 2nd round eliminations? Dhoni is a very good ODI captain but not some legend as some of you make him out to be....Don't think even Ponting despite having acheived way more than Dhoni in that format is ever over-hyped as much

Well the same could perfectly apply to Ganguly the test captain.Afterall he never won a test series outside Sub continent (excluding Zimbabwe).Not even Ponting or Steve Waugh were over hyped as much as Ganguly.But these are mainly due to how we performed in the past and hence the hype(of Ganguly and Dhoni).U cant really compare the achievement of our captains with Aussies

We won the series aganist both SA and Aus under Dhoni.Thats what matters.

Not losing comprehensively overseas is a brilliant record going by our history abroad As far as SRT's comment goes...there is a little thing called diplomacy....Do you really expect him to critique him while playing under him...Hell even Dravid and Laxman didn't say a single negative thing about Dhoni despite the way they retired

SA was not as good as they are now . England was hardly a world class side those days. Infact in the 1985 tour to Australia, India absolutely pwned Australia in pretty much every single session. Rain cost us the series. Indai destroyed England in England during 1986 tour. India managed to draw in Pakistan in 1989 tour .

Let me give all the Dhoni bhakts an example......Here is the thing...when people rate Lloyd as one of the greatest captains ever....can we say he had a great team-Yes,Did he have a lot of trophies and accomplishments-Yes but then what seperates him than the rest? He brought people from diverse cultures/countries within the carribean towards a common goal and made them a world dominating side....Now I am not saying Ganguly is in the same league as Lloyd but just taking into consideration the time in Indian cricket Ganguly took over the reins and call it a coincidence if you want how guys like Yuvraj,Bhajji,Sehwag,Zak,Nehra,Pathan emerged around the same period automatically qualifies him to be our greatest captain.Never seen such a diverse talent-pool emerge under anyone else :hmmm:

Ganguly Problems during Ganguly's time-No steady opening pair in tests...Look at all the combinations we had to endure No Reliable Keeper-Mongia banned Lot of Middle order slots up for the taking-Azhar,Jadeja Dhoni Dhoni-I have said this in other threads Dhoni the player is probably one of the best things to happen to Indian cricket last Decade,Karthik would have been first choice in the 90's era and ended up being a legend in his own right Openers-Sehwag-Gambhir-Their record till recent times speaks for itself. Middle order-One of the best ever to play the game

^ I am not a Ganguly bhakt by any means......I look at the captains contribution by not how many trophies he has won because we all know captain is as good as his team...I look at the captain's contribution as how as a leader he laid the foundation for the future....Hell I even rate Kumble over Dhoni going by how many tmes Dhoni has thanked him for the smooth transition to him.

By the time Gangu took over it was water under the bridge. Sachin was the captain before Ganguly not Azharuddin. Ganguly looked awfully good because his captaincy was followed by one of the worst captain in Indian history and fraud captain. Also John Wright brought in lot of fresh ideas as a coach. His confrontational attitude didnt help anyone. Even in IPL we could see how pathetically Ganguly made some changes. Dhoni given the right ingredients i would 100% back him to go all the way in a tournament.
