dada for me..we were comparable to minnows abroad..after 2000 it changed drastically ,we began to believe in ourself that we could win test matches(if not series),we challenged eng,aus,windies,pak.... that test match win at port of spain in 2002 was a great moment for indian cricket add to that, we were 6th favorites to wc 2003 and nobody gave us a chance to even reach the super 8..that wc was amazing.. we reached consecutive finals in every tournament for years..

This is about test captaincy I think? Dravid certainly was a better test captain than both of them. As far as ODI's there is no contest,Dhoni is the ultimate winner.Someone talked about reaching consecutive finals under Gangu.Well we won the finals under Dhoni,thats what we remember,not the defeats in finals lol

Nobody was perfect. Ofcourse Pataudi i can't comment as i have not seen him much captaining. Sunny, Sachin to some extent didn't allow captaincy to bother their batting. Kapil bowling was at his best when he was a captain. he would step up most of the time. Ganguly is often hailed as a great leader than great captain. He definitely had something about him. But Dhoni is much more result-oriented. Only issue with him is his team brilliantly triumphs or hopeless loses. It oscillates between extremes. 2007 they win World T20, 2009 and 2010 they crash out first round. They get to no.1 spot then they lost 0-8. Ganguly's personal form was not helping India at all. I can't remember a captain who performed very poorly as a player. it was so annoying to see him showing aggression while contributing nothing to the team. He was not a great strategist either. Dravid was not extremely good or extremely bad. Somewhere in the middle. Kumble was also not bad. Infact he had sound cricketing knowledge. At this point Dhoni would have a slight edge over others.

Funny thing is that atleast 4 people said Dravid in this thread, but when you look at the poll :haha: So its just lip service.... like our politicians.
