Rajasthan has no bowling to talk about, Pankaj Singh was the only decent bowler, they played on flattest of tracks and did not have to worry about getting opposition out, first innings lead or no result points got them the trophy, there are many teams who can beat them on good tracks, this is why we are not producing good cricketers.

At one stage, they were on the verge of getting eliminated, won their last two league games outright to make it to the quarter finals. And then in the semis, they were shot out for 70 odd in the 1st innings yet went onto win the semis vs Haryana. In the finals, they took on TN who were a firm favorites and batted them out of the match but not before taking all 10 wickets of a very strong TN batting line up for a little less than 300 on a patta chepauk wicket. Not many teams have been able to achieve that in the recent past. Mind you, they played all their knock out matches away from home. For them to go onto win the Ranji Trophy was their own success rather than the failure of other teams. Winning once could be a fluke (which again in a 3 month tournament with many knock out matches will be unlikely), to do it twice is a wonderful achievement.

Doesn't matter what they did last year, but in this match, their attack has been pathetic. It is obviously not their fault that their main bowler Pankaj Singh is not fit for this match, and Chahar who is only half fit. Also another of their paceman Rituraj is on India A duty as well as their batsman Menaria! So Rajasthan is depleted as a team. And hence this contest has become even more one sided. This is the report of Day 2: Vijay slams unbeaten 151 on bad day for Rajasthan Sidhanta Patnaik Ž· Bangalore Ž· Sep 22, 2012 Ž· scorecard M VijayÃÔ fluent unbeaten 151 and his century partnerships with Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara put Rest of India (RoI) in a dominant position after the second day of their Irani Cup match against Rajasthan at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Replying to RajasthanÃÔ first innings effort of 253, RoI reached 328 for two at stumps, a lead of 75 runs, with S Badrinath, who opened his account off the last ball of the day, the other unbeaten batsman. On a track that helped batsmen throughout the day, the signs were ominous for Rajasthan from the very first over. Vijay opened his account with a gentle push to the cover boundary off Deepak Chahar and, along with Rahane, his fellow opener, settled down to milk the dispirited attack. Both Rahane and Vijay, who have faced superior attacks over the years, used the opportunity to prove a point or two to the national selectors, especially with Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag having an extended run of poor form at the top of the order with the national team. The pair displayed exemplary batsmanship as they drove, flicked and glanced with precision and played almost all of the strokes from the middle of their bats. Rahane brought up his half-century with a glorious cover drive off Sumit Mathur, and throughout his 209 minutes at the crease, was neat and effortless and seemed to have that extra bit of time for all his shots. The pair put on 173 runs in 47.1 overs and looked inseparable when a rare bit of miscommunication led to RahaneÃÔ dismissal for 81. A straight drive from Rahane knocked the bat off VijayÃÔ hand and before Vijay had time to react, Rahane was halfway down the track with the ball in the hands of Madhur Khatri, the mid-on fielder. Khatri had enough time to throw the ball to Dinesh Yagnik, the wicketkeeper, with both Rahane and Vijay stranded at the other end. Vijay, however, continued the good work in collaboration with Pujara, with whom he put on 153 runs for the second wicket, stepping up the scoring rate in the process. Vijay first stepped out to hit Khatri over midwicket for a six to race to 99, and then danced down the track to the same bowler to hit another two sixes in his next over. Vijay, who has so far spent 394 minutes at the crease and has hit 18 boundaries and five sixes, played only one false stroke in his innings when in the 47thover he was tempted into a drive to a wide delivery from Mathur that missed the outside edge by inches. Pujara, who continued to impress, quietly structured an innings of 78. Rajasthan, however, managed to see his back when Aniket Choudhary got him to edge one to Yagnik after the new ball was taken in the 87th over. Apart from Choudhary, who impressed in bits, it was a difficult day for the Rajasthan bowlers. The pacemen were inconsistent with their lines and lengths, while the spinners were either negative with their lines or bowled too many hit-me balls. They received a further blow when Chahar, who was getting a bit of movement in the air, had to leave the ground in the 57thover due to a knee injury. Only a miracle can bring Rajasthan back into the match now, with RoI just two down and with Stuart Binny, Dinesh Karthik and Wriddhiman Saha still to bat.
