After the departure of the three (RD, SRT and VVS) the SA Tests and NZ 1st Test, the performance was much better than what it was with those three in Eng(2011) and Aus (2012), with a new bunch that is settling in very well under MSD and Fletcher. Hate all you want, but removal of MSD (unless he does not command a place in the XI) would have hardly yielded better results in SA or NZ tests. If anything thanks to his cool nature and his backing, players like Vijay, Shikar, Pujara, Kohli, Rohit, Rahane, Jadeja etc. are coming to terms with the overseas conditions and settling in and India will cash in big over the next few years. Mate, no one stays in form forever. I backed dhawan but someone like rohit needs to step up or be benched so we can win some matches. In ODIs u can back but in tests you need results. Dhoni's issue is that his rope is subjective, it depends on who the player is. Ishant was part of many of those overseas losses so he should have been discarded but he's not! Yet we have yadav and pandey on bench who could do great things if backed.

Last one before that is anybody's guess. In any other sport any capt/coach would have been fired for such constant dismal results.

express bowling Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 The basic issue to me is that there is no accountability ,as far as Dhoni is concerned, for the last 2 years or so. He can do virtually anything and will still survive. Whether Dhoni needs to go or not is a different issue. The fact that he cannot go even if he should .... is the main issue to me. He can pick anybody he wants even if he is not performing, drop anybody he wants even if he deserves a place, have conflict of interest but no questions will be asked. The captain himself is choosing himself as the captain till the world cup ... that is the main issue to me. This should not be acceptable to a democratic country like ours.

His shelf life as a captain, tests in particular, is waaay past its sell by date, you can smell the rotting corpse from here. Couple that with his rather hopeless batting and average wicketkeeping and it is obvious that he needs to step aside. However he won’t because once stripped of the captaincy these weaknesses will become even more apparent – as on the basis of a batsman/wicketkeeper he will not get into the team.
