Crookbond Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 with just 128 to get' date='I would hv taken Sehwag getting out for 20 off 10[/quote'] Slogging is not the only way to get a 20 of 10 AFAIK
maniac Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Currently' date=' the way the league runs is that 4 foreign players cover up for the 7 domestic donkeys (or less if they have proven stalwarts) in a team. Take Balaji's case for example - Did we perform well in IPL? Yes. But, what messed him up in the World T20. One can not take IPL performance de facto and say the player will succeed. The selectors have to understand the latent information - skills, attitude etc. before making the decision. This will involve intense scrutiny of each and every player. But, up & above all IPL will never help because the main aim of the IPL is to provide "entertainment" to the general masses. Shorter boundaries, flatter pitches are not a label of skill. I would argue that performance in IPL can in fact count for [i']sifar if the World T20 is held at certain places in the world. Agree....So in turn it looks like an overseas player might merit his selection in T20 and ODI squad based on his IPL exploits given his acclimitisation over a domestic player.....Balaji was not a questionable selection and TBF did end up as the highest wicket taker but I am questioning aboutr selections of Chawla,Harbhajan, etc who were picked from nowhere.
Lord Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Slogging is not the only way to get a 20 of 10 AFAIK Ah no ... Texy. He's definitely committed but out of form. I meant Sehwag like slogging, not Lala type
Crookbond Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Agree....So in turn it looks like an overseas player might merit his selection in T20 and ODI squad based on his IPL exploits given his acclimitisation over a domestic player.....Balaji was not a questionable selection and TBF did end up as the highest wicket taker but I am questioning aboutr selections of Chawla' date=Harbhajan, etc who were picked from nowhere. 100% agree - I see no reason (superstition or otherwise), they should be anywhere near the squad. In hindsight though, I think it has only helped Harbhajan - I like him bowling his doosra.
Crookbond Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I meant Sehwag like slogging' date='not Lala type[/quote'] If by Sehwag slogging, you mean the shot he hit today of Peterson - no thanks would be my answer.
veer Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 For some reason.. i always thought P. Ojha is the best bowler we have for 20/20..
Trundler27 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 rahane/murali vijay pujara kohli yuvi raina tiwary saha irfan ashwin sheep 1 sheep 2 man i can't even think of 11 worthwhile t20 players that could be a part of our team atm... what a shame
Crookbond Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 For some reason.. i always thought P. Ojha is the best bowler we have for 20/20.. He moved to Mumbai Indians last season and did not perform to potential ... Surprise!
jairamesh Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 ^^^ There are plenty Rayudu, Mandeep, Debrata Das, Awana, P. Ojha, Nadeem, Manyank Agarwal, Umesh Yadav (best Indian bowler in IPL), Neechim, Munaf, Rahane, Dhawan, IPL is not all about tits and CSK. There is plenty local talent on display. But sadly the lack of cajones and self-interest from Selectors and we deserve to get knocked early.
veer Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 rahane/murali vijay pujara kohli yuvi raina tiwary saha irfan ashwin sheep 1 sheep 2 man i can't even think of 11 worthwhile t20 players that could be a part of our team atm... what a shame jeez... vijay/saha/pujara???? are you kidding me.. good you are not a selector..
Lord Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 If by Sehwag slogging' date=' you mean the shot he hit today of Peterson - no thanks would be my answer.[/quote'] wouldnt mind it we r chasing 128 is wat I'm saying
Crookbond Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I think Rayudu should be knocking the T20 doors soon. We lost Saurabh Tiwary another potentiall player who has just faded away after joining RCB.
Yoda-esque Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 jeez... vijay/saha/pujara???? are you kidding me.. good you are not a selector.. A lot of people want Saha :giggle:
Crookbond Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 wouldnt mind it we r chasing 128 is wat I'm saying It's not about that day, that chase man. If he keeps on doing it, I do not want such a player. Simple? I can't even expect a player who has played 12 years of international cricket to have some sense of the game around. Sorry - but I would prefer to do away with such people. For me, the sum of the parts should be always greater.
Trundler27 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 jeez... vijay/saha/pujara???? are you kidding me.. good you are not a selector.. Well its ok if you'd rather stick to the tried and tested trio of gambhir, sehwag, and dhoni Since i was responding to the thread titled no 'Sehwag, Zaheer, etc....' i decided to see how our team would look without these laggards. Don't try to sit on both sides of the fence... I wonder what type of selector you'd make
VRV Singh Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I have been saying for a while you may as well give Kohli the captaincy These tonty tontys are once or twice in a tour itinerary and every two years in a tournament. You might as well use that time to give others some responsibility. It is the same tired old legs dragging themselves to these competitions. India must have the most players consistently playing every format. It would be interesting for the fans as well. Be real anyway, the only guy who has proven he is anything like world class in Tonty tonty is Yuvraj Singh.

Texy Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 We need to field a relatively new T20 team for every int'l T20 match from here on. My XI: Bisla (wk) Rahane Mandy Singh Virat Kohli (Capt) Yuvi Raina Tiwary Ashwin Awana Yadav Aaron/Vinay Kumar Reserves: Shahbaz Nadeem, Yusuf Pathan, Ambati Rayudu (back up wk)
jairamesh Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 For SL World T20, my t20 would have been (in hindsight) Rahane, Manyank, Rayudu, Kohli, Raina, Uthappa, Yusuf, Irfan, Ashwin, Iqbal Abudallah, Umesh Good fielding unit, batting would be stable, bowling is going to be hit and miss. basically rest seniors (i.e. t20 is funtime take a break) and reward IPL performances/unothodox players
Crookbond Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Texy, Uthappa has to have a place somewhere there. Not convinced on Aaron or Vinay either.
