1983-2011 Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 Does Shiv Sena have anyone capable of replacing their founder and former leader Bala Keshav Thackeray. BTW they have very few seats in the parliament but he did have a lot of influence in Maharastra. Seats in Lok Sabha 11 / 545 Seats in Rajya Sabha 4 / 245 Seats in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly 44 / 288
rageaddict Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 Raj Thackeray easily . He has got the class and charishma similar to his uncle . Uddhav OTOH is dumb as **** .
Sachin=GOD Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 Raj Thackrey has got his Uncle's charisma and (too some extent) his wits while Uddhav has (for the moment) the support the HUGE Shiv Sena machinery in the entire state - if both of them combine (Raj as the face of the party and Uddhav as the President or something like that) then IMO Shiv Sena will not only survive but will also be quite successful in years to come. If they don't join hands then Shiv Sena will be finished in a few years while MNS will take many years to actually become a significant player at the State level.

rageaddict Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 Yes the figures are correct as per 2009 assembly elections . During 1995 election , Shiv Sena's numbers were 150/288 . Numbers gone down now .
Crookbond Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 Is that all? I thought they were big players in Maharashtra at the very least. Thanks to Narayan Rane. The only place were SS rules currently is the Municipal Elections.

ViruRulez Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Raj Thakeray is the only possible replacement. If Uddhav continues to head Shiv Sena and does not merge it with MNS then I would not be surprised if Shiv Sena dies a gradual death and MNS instead takes its place. MNS already won Nashik civic body elections and has made huge dents into traditional Shiv Sena as well as Congress and NCP votebanks all over Maharastra earlier this year. So, he is definitely on the rise even when BT was alive. BT's death will only help him further as Uddhav is not seen by most people as an able replacement for BT. I personally feel that there are some traits in Raj Thakeray which might help him even go ahead of Bal Thakeray in the long run. In short, Raj Thakeray is cunning like his uncle but he has got more positives compared to his uncle to help him go ahead a lot further. For example, Raj Thakeray is unique in the sense that he plays dirty regional politics but still not communal politics. That is the reason he has got a lot wider support among different types of people compared to Bal Thakeray or Shiv Sena. He tries to show himself more as a messiah of all local people of Maharashtra irrespective of any divisions. Secondly, while BT turned too defensive in his later stages, Raj was seen as being more regionalist but also nationalist. For example, during the Mumbai riots case earlier, he was the first politician to speak against the hooligans and he also cleverly blamed it on Bihar rather than Muslims. He mostly takes such stance and kills two birds in one arrow and I have been noticing it for long. So, he is a lot more cunning not only than Uddhav but also his own uncle. I won't be surprised if a lot of Shiv Sena as well as a other Maharashtra politicians defect to MNS in the long run and he emerges the largest regional party ahead of Shiv Sena and perhaps even BJP and NCP. Congress would probably survive as Maharashtra is an extremely cosmopolitan state with people from all over India but they might even face a tough threat from MNS if Raj plays his tactics right. BTW Bal Thakeray did a huge mistake not making Raj the head of the party ahead of his son and merging the parties before he died.
