Is Mr. Bedi being a hypocrite. Going by his own comments, who is he to criticize Harbhajan Singh (400 + test wickets) or for that matter Murali (800 test wickets) calling them all sorts of names! Although he does make some good points, he has always been a headline maker and this entire interview is no better. Talking of the salaries of the selectors, lack of match winning spinners (who have been piuotal in us wining last 6-7 matches before Mumbai loss and are still relatively inexperienced) etc just shows he talks with an agenda. BTW it will be good for Mr Bedi, the J&K coach and chief selector to ensure his own Ranji team is not riven with feuds. recently Kashmiri cricketers did not turn up for J&K Ranji game alleging biased selections and Mr. Bedi being the chief selector has to cop some blame and should ideally be focused on doing a job for which he is himself getting paid reasonably well.

Performance over 1 yr which these days equates to a handful of test matches, it not a reliable benchmark for form, 2009-current hes averaged over 53 in tests. :hatsoff: Additionally he has sat out all the easy series like WI home+away and NZ, cant imagine what his stats would look like otherwise, he would have been crossing 60 over last few yrs.

On average a stable player will play 7-10 test matches per yr so looking at a 2-3 yr period gives you a better indication of their form as they will have played almost everywhere home and away. Gambhir 2009-current averages 40.35, he should be in the firing line above Tendulkar if you are looking for scape goats. Personally feel he needs to retire from tests (continue in ODI/T20 maybe as captain) and Rahane needs to be given a chance.

No but you should not dismiss something someone has done a mere 24 months ago as there is absolutely no reason why they cant do the same again. Especially if they have been producing for yrs and yrs and proven themselves. 30 test matches is absolute maximum most with injury/odd rest will play less. Im not of course talking about giving new players that long.

Yep, if I was Zaheer Khan I would contemplate suicide as well. Bedi is right on the money here. Zaheer Khan is often thought of as one of our greatest pace bowlers, and alongside Kapil and Srinath should be a candidate for pace slot in all time Indian XI. And yet when was the last time ANY cricket pitch at home was created to favor Zaheer Khan?? In the current series Zaheer should be able to stand toe to toe with likes of Anderson and Broad (it is not like we are facing Marshall and Holding here) and yet he has to take the backseat and as always let the 2nd rate spinners like Ojha and Ashwin be the prima donnas. I am sure it rankles Zaheer.

If I was Zaheer Khan, I'd contemplate suicide! He has close to 300 Test wickets, yet didn't open the bowling in the first innings and wasn't given even an over in the second.
