This whole royal family pregnancy news is becoming insufferable

The DJs are not responsible for her death' date=' but they ARE a contributing factor to it. Any prankster runs the risk of things backfiring. If I thought it would be fun to scare you suddenly, and you subsequently punched me in the eye as a response, I would not be an innocent victim, I bought it on myself. We all have to take some responsiblity for our actions.[/quote'] If you are going to apply such a strict yardstick, where does it end? You could keep drawing these obtuse connections to pretty much accuse at least one person if something bad happens in this world. If I am competing for a job with 10 other applicants and all of them had huge, struggling families that depended on these applicants to put food on the table, should I feel guilty if I get the job over the other contenders? Should I tell myself 'Oh If i get this job, a family may go hungry tonight, so I better deliberately under-perform'? Of course not! I am going to give interview the best shot that I can possibly manage. We are responsible for our actions and should stop indulging in the tendency to always want to find a scapegoat whenever anything goes wrong.

We'll have to agree to disagree. But as I said, they are not murderers, and have been punished enough already.

Btw, this whole media manufactured hype over the royal couple over every single darn thing that happens in their life is getting beyond ridiculous and is only perpetuating the celebrity driven lifestyle that seems to be permeating our society like a cancer. Kate seems a fine, elegant women. She got pregnant, so congrats to her and her family. But why the EFF should I care if she went to bed at 10 or got up 8 or wore a red dress on Thursday? I was having a casual conversation with a friend of mine over this ever growing celebrity lifestyle coverage and she told me that the reason why there's so much coverage of the celebrity lifestyles in the media is so that ordinary people (like you and me) feel left out, feel as though we havent made it yet. We then try to bridge that gap by consuming more - buying bigger homes, flashier cars, more expensive jewelry. And it is this vicious cycle that keeps the economic engine growing. So companies sell more, which means they can buy more ads, which means the media outlets get more money. We end up being the poor victims. Think about it - if you felt really happy/contended about your life, your urge to consume will come down (I think). If we stopped consuming, that is a body blow to the foundation of the capitalistic society.

Just because one happened right after the other does not automatically mean they're linked to each other.

I can tell you one thing...suicides almost always involve multiple factors. One can't blame it on a single entity. In this case, it is obvious that she probably experienced heavy backlash from her superiors and that became the catalyst factor which lead to her death. However, it is quite possible she always had mild depression and several mitigating factors in her personal life, career in the past could have contributed heavily in this decision. As one can see failure to diagnose depression associated with bipolar & uni-polar disorder can lead to disastrous outcomes.

It may be a simple prank A, but this call immediately went global. That call was being played and talked about world wide before the nurse's death. Apparently this nurse was not a regular receptionist , she just stepped in to help for someone. I can understand if supervisors has chided her for letting out a private information of a high profile patient which went viral. I'm sure she must have felt terrible to get all the blame for a mistake she hasn't made. She immigrated to England 4 years back from a small village in India, so she couldn't recognize the accent of pranksters. she took the criticism to heart and went for an extreme step.

These kind of pranks are obnoxious. Success of these kind of pranks are directly proprtional to the shock factor that "victim" has displayed. So there is always an incentive for coming with whacky and insenstive ideas which would cause stronger reactions in the one being subjected to prank. I can accept pranks from my family and friends but not from somebody who is using me to gain commercially and has nothing to do with my happiness or problems in life. I would think these RJ's have definitely contributed towards the death of that nurse.

The usual practice for any broadcasted prank, is to obtain permission - it sounds like the radio station did try to get such permission, but were unsuccessful for whatever reason. I assume this poor lady would never have agreed, and so I guess, for the fun and fame they decided to broadcast anyway.

Listening to the DJs interviews this morning it seems like firstly that they are understandably in shock and also that they did not expect it to go as far as having a conversation with the ward nurse, let alone Kate herself. They did not set out to get any confidential information and in their words expected to get rumbled and hung up on. The accents as they themselves rightly point out are rubbish. I mean having those corgis in the background?! The nurse who killed herself is not really to blame here I mean all she did was forward the call, it was that second nurse who divulged any info. Easy to say in hindsight I know, but that was quite gullible. Some GP practices here have measures whereby they do not give any personal data over the phone- that was the kind of guidelines needed here. Tragedy aside, the prank call was quite funny. But they did try and get permission but were not granted and broadcast the call anyway- that is where they went wrong. They should not be vilified the way they are though

Spoken like a true conservative! :--D Anyway, this is the day hell freezes over. Ram, p_k and I agree on something.

I think the hospital working practices need a investigation. They should be blamed for the suicide. Pranks happen everyday, if they held this poor nurse responsible for the media shame it brought to the hospital, then they must be help responsible. Too bad, the pranksters are being abused. They should naturally take a leave of absence.

Only a matter of time before the ice melts away. :--D P.S; You'd be surprised to know on how many issues my opinions converge with yours. I am a strong fiscal conservative/anti deficits guy, I am against unemployment benefits, I am pro war (if it is just). I also think that, as long you pass the necessary background checks, you should be allowed to own a bloody tank if you please.

Now if only you could be anti-gay, anti-minorities, anti-abortion and pro-christianity you would be the perfect republican.
