Injured India batsman Manoj Tiwary has been replaced in the India squad for the Twenty20s against England by Ambati Rayudu. Tiwary's injury was diagnosed as a side strain. He had picked up the injury, which will keep him out of action for six weeks, during a Ranji Trophy game on Sunday, while batting in Bengal's first innings against Saurashtra. Rayudu, who has played for Baroda in the Ranji Trophy since the 2010-11 season, has had a prolific run this year, with scores of 64, 85, 10, 54, 1, 131 and 58 in his previous five games. A bit-hitting middle-order batsman, Rayudu did not have too much success on his last Twenty20 assignment: October's Champions League T20, where he played for Mumbai Indians. But in IPL 2012, he was Mumbai Indians second-highest scorer behind Rohit Sharma, with 333 runs from 15 innings at a strike-rate of 132.14. He is yet to debut for India across formats. For Tiwary, who captains Bengal in the Ranji Trophy, this is a second setback in quick succession - he had suffered a wrist problem earlier in the season. When fit, he had shown some good form, scoring 191 against Gujarat, and also making 93 against England for the Board President's XI last month. India play two Twenty20s against England, on December 20 and 22, and that is followed up by limited-overs series' against Pakistan running into the first week of January. Later in January, England return for a one-day series.

Rayudu elated over India call-up

Ambati Rayudu is delighted on being selected to represent India in the two-match T-20 series against England later this month. “It is a great feeling obviously. And, all I am looking for is to stay focused and live up to the expectations,” said the batsman from Hyderabad. The 27-year-old Rayudu, who earlier represented India ‘A’ quite successfully, reminds that he did not set himself any big targets. “I want to keep things simple and stick to basics,” he said. “Honestly, given the recent good run at different levels, I was optimistic of getting the big break and I am glad that I could make it,” he added. Rayudu in a chat with The Hindu agreed that playing for Mumbai Indians for three seasons did help him a lot in evolving into a much more mature and responsible cricketer. “There is no better feeling than to play alongside such greats like Sachin Tendulkar. The most impressive facet of this great character is his work ethics, his humility despite such fabulous achievements. We naturally tend to pick a few new things,” he explained. Rayudu is grateful to coaches Vijay Paul and Nagesh Hammand for all their help in his early school days. “Then, there are many including India ‘A’ coach Robin Singh sir, the current Baroda coach Sanath Kumar who helped me a lot,” he added. “Well, I cannot forget the contribution of either the HCA or the Baroda Cricket Association for giving me the big breaks when I was looking for in domestic cricket,” he said to a query. “I dedicate this call to my parents and wife for their unstinted support in my hour of crisis and always made me believe that bigger things in cricket will follow me,” said a smiling Rayudu. For someone who admires former Aussie captain Steve Waugh a lot, Rayudu is determined to make optimum use of the huge opportunity of serving the country. “There is no better feeling than to play for India. It should be easily a dream-come-true finish for me,” he concluded.

Having high averages doesn't mean that you are a good player , for example: Rohit Sharma has average of around 60 in first class and you can see how crap he is at international level.

Yes agree but don't forget in all likelyhood Tiwary and Rohit Sharma will be ahead. I think we could do with someone like Pujara in the team. Also Tendulkar is still playing ODI technically.
