Arrey yaar.. u won't even believe what s happening in Indian metro cities and even in small towns.. These so called feminists' date=' encourage live in relationships, marrying men outside of their religion(mainly hindu girls with muslim men) becoz u would not find muslim women indulging in this. These hindu women dress up like bollywood heroines and go to parties and take drugs, drinking etc. Becoz of this attitude teenage pregnancies have increased in schools and colleges. It was all fine even in 2000s but now I cannot believe whats happening in our country. I live in Mumbai and I am gonna get married in few months and I can't tell u how happy I am and I am happy I found the right girl for my life. I will allow her to dress the way she likes and with limits but I cannot allow her to get drunk and go to parties and dance half naked.[/quote'] You are absolutely in the wrong and many posters have already mentioned that. That said there are certain elements in your post that definitely merit introspection. a) Has the case of drinking amongst Indian girls gone up? Absolutely. More and more girls are drinking, and frankly I wouldn't care one way or the other except a lot of rapes do happen around spiked drinks and it absolutely surprises me when I read girls did not expect it specially around misfit groups. b) Live-in relationships. I think this should definitely be encouraged. Our society has changed hugely in last 2 decades. Men, and women, are now marrying way late. If earlier men married in early 20s and late teens, these days most men and women marry in late 20s and 30s. That compounded with the fact that often they live in a different city/state/country can be tough on you. Plus it is kind of sad that a man, and woman, spend their best age (20s) being a celibate. Of course that is a man speaking but woman do take notice too :winky: c) Best wishes to your marriage. Let her wear what she likes, if not you may stifle her personality. There is nothing sexier than a confident woman, nor is there anything more put-off than a woman lost. Good luck.

So, should we allow this to happen? allowing women to get drunk and get raped due to the influence of alcohol? nope. This is why I was talking about our culture. Our culture gave enough freedom to women as they are the main source of reproduction. If women are gonna get drunk and get raped or even murdered, should we allow this to continue?

Live in relationships. Yes, its always men who forces women for live in relationships. Women to want commitment, but its always men who want live in relationships and somehow convince her that they can live without getting married. I know u r a muslim, but I do wanna say this to u. Don't get me wrong. Its been predicted that European demographics are gonna change in 50 years since muslims are reproducing a lot and the whites are lagging behind. Muslim women in European countries are given absolutely no freedom at all and they are used nothing but birth giving machines. European white women got all the freedom and they are more focused on their careers rather then giving birth to children. I don't want this to happen in India. All the women freedom movement would suppress the hindu population and the muslim population would take over India. If that happens, there would be no question of women freedom. All of them would be behind pardas. U want this to happen.? Pls don't think I am communal. I just want to state these facts as I am disturbed by whats happening in our country. c

Thank u very much for ur wishes and I would definitely treat her as my equal. I would just want her to be safe in this dangerous country.

Wonder why it is not made into a big issue as there was semblance of chance for someone to notice this horror from the outside. It is again down to law and order. They have to ban all vehicles with tinted glasses. You absolutely don't need privacy in a transportation system.

Ofcouse you do if you know how Indian public stare at women sitting in a car but then you have variation of degrees to which you can tint the glass.. There are state laws in US abt that as well.

Its about summers as well, the tint blocks some of the sun rays although the lighter green tint might be legal.

I'm shocked. Is all this in the aftermath of this particular incident, or do you generally take so many precautions? Over here, in Mumbai, you would rarely find a girl who carries pepper spray. I just have a small swiss army knife as a cupboard key-chain, which I don't even carry everywhere. I've learned some Karate though, and was moderately good at it.
No I have lived in cantonment areas most of my life.stayed in Mumbai too for some time...one of the safest places at least in the daytime. Shifted to NCR a few years back. Can't wait to move out but it seems like things are no better elsewhere.Have a very young daughter .That too changes the way you look at the world around you.

The crucial difference is that with men it's something personal. Men behave like *******s with other men, get killed. Killed because you stole someone's cow, built on his land, kicked his bike, cheated him on a business deal, stepped on his foot, hid some cards while playing rummy, asked him for his ticket on a train, hurt his ego etc. Etc. But you will never get killed BECAUSE you are a man. Big difference. There aren't buses trawling your city tonight waiting for you to get aboard so that the other people on the bus can murder you and toss you out. But that girl could have been any other girl and she would be raped simply because she was a girl. Every time you read a news item of a man murdered, you don't think, "that could so easily have been me!"
+1 Little boys are not killed in the womb because they are boys. This crime starts at home by people who are supposed to protect.

I don't think you are communal. Your angst is similar to many others and let me see if I can help you see the situation differently.

You are no-body to "allow" anyone. Every citizen of India regardless of gender has as much right as you do. I absolutely want women to be given same right as a man. But I am also going to hold them equally responsible for their actions. If a 18 year old is not smart enough to understand why men 10 years older would like to meet her, she would have my sympathies but not exactly my support for poor choice.

Live-in relationships need to be dealth with lot of depth and tenderness in our country, which unfortunately we have not. Here are my thoughts: a) Bulk of our young population, 20s/30s, are moving away from their own home town, often state, and to Bombay, NCR, Bangalore etc. It is a tough life to move from your family, into a big city where nobody cares about you, go to work travelling 60-70 km everyday, work odd hours for a grouchy American customer who is shouting at you, and in the process try to save money so you can send back home. Sure the young ones make more money than their previous generation but they are also more stressed and lonely. Most of them are losing their youth working for some company and losing best phase of their life for a fistful of rupee. b) The age, 20s/30s coincides with opening up of an average Indian man/woman. They fall in relationships and often crave for physical nature. Which is the beauty of a good relationship actually. Somehow we have made sex a taboo thing in our society but I doubt there is any youth man or woman who does not obsess it about much. Of course it has to be done in a responsible manner and hence live-in relationship with someone you absolutely love and possibly settle down later with is a great option. c) That said, would I have the guts to do a live-in with my gf in my own hometown??? F***k NO! Would I have the guts to live-in relationship with my gf in her hometown?? NO. I wouldnt have the courage to do that to my, or her, parents and their social reputation. And there-in lies the quandry. We, young ones, want live-in relationship but ONLY when we move to a big city where we dont have boundaries. And folks like me will fight for it. And yet if a Mumbaiwallah feels offended because he has lived all his life folks like me will think he is backward. The reality is that I would perhaps be offended too if a bunch of yuppies moved in a live-in relationship next door in my hometown Gaya(Bihar). There is a sense of hypocracy on both sides and unfortunately as we quabble our society is breaking at seams.
I know u r a muslim, but I do wanna say this to u.
I am an Indian, Bihari and Hindu...in that order :winky:

The people who raped are disgusting crap- calling them animals wud be an insult to animals but I also don't understand what kind of human beings are so scared or apathetic that they won't help 2 badly beaten, bloodied persons and would just pass them by Is it the fear of getting involved?? or has the society become so callous that unless it impacts oneself no one wants to lend a helping hand ??

Interview of the guy who was accompanying the girl. Heart Wrenching.
My belief is shaken up.. At some point.. we ALL are responsible for this situation. Somewhere we have collectively failed. This incident is a slap on everyone who is living in India and connected to India. And somewhere I also believe that this girl died to wake us up.. The guy is saying nobody helped him when they were dying on the road.. I ask myself what would I have done? Would I have helped a naked girl dripping with blood n intestine coming out and a naked guy bleeding to death? Would i have taken them in my car which could have gotten bloodied and stained red?? would i be willing to get into a rape case and willing to spend a night at police station/hospital?? May be NOT and I am f'king pissed at my unwillingness.

I was watching this guru's (don't remember the guy's name) parvachan once and in it he contrasted between modern economic model vs spirituality. That Capitalist system is driven by profit and greed, which drives people's mindset to become completely self centered. But human beings are still social creatures and have a need to connect. But that connection becomes limited to family only. So the goal of spirituality in the 21st century is to extend that sphere of connectivity.

The USA, as a country, is modern and damn we laugh at their culture and what not.. but I tip my hate to these folks and I give you two instances. My mom was driving to work few years back.. and it was rainy/slippery day. She somehow lost control of her car and flipped the car upside down in a ditch.. Her car was upside down and she had her belt on so she was hanging literally upside down. Door wasnt opening. Passer by came to her rescue within two minutes and broke the window of glass and helped her out of the car. They gave her cell phone to call us and we rushed back. As I was listening to this guy's interview I remember this situation. Another instance over the weekend.. I was on highway driving at 70 mph and all of a sudden traffic was slowing and in that traffic one car stopped from 70-75 mph speed.. i was like what the hell he is doing.. found out that the guy was stopping to rescue people from car that just flippped secs earlier and its literally in vertical position (like this 'cII' if you can imagine). Then there were two other cars stopped and guys rushed to check if things are ok. I mean hats off to them for doing that. As Indians and as humans we will have to do more for people and not just for our bank balance and personal goals. My sincere hope is that I change first n do more to spread positives.

Did that stop them from doing this. This applies to everyone from the politicians to the cops on the road, we are as spiritual as a nation as it can get. UK and even the USA have a huge number of atheists, do you think those countries have all gone to dogs? There is no point harping about spirituality and tradition/culture. What use reminiscing about our glory days of Indian civilization and also our spiritual richness when we cant keep our streets clean never mind helping a rape victim. All this is just a feel good thing that most people want to peddle so that we as a country dont move our lazy asses to get things done. Time has come to look inward. There is fundamentally something wrong when we and our society cannot evolve to changing times.

I put it all down to law and order. For instance, why are there so many filthy comments on youtube and not here or any other well moderated forum?Does that mean that everybody on those forums is all roses and does not cuss or harbor bad thoughts? Have a strong Law & Order system and all these problems will be minimized.
