CG Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Gambhir- Pros- 1.Senior Player 2.Established Odi Player 3.Has captained India in odis with success and also captained delhi 4.Big Match Player 5.Does well as a captain 6.Seems to finding some form in eng series Cons- 1.Struggling with form for last 2 years in Tests 2.May not have backing Of BCCI Kohli Pros- 1-Young ,Energetic May bring a freshness to the team 2-Best odi Batsman in the world 3-Has Bcci Support 4.Can be alongterm Replacement Cons- 1.Has less experience of captaincy In Fc level 2.Performance was affected when he captained Rcb 3.Still to establish himself as a good test batsman 4.If made captain ,Seniors may sulk. My choice would be gambhir for tests and kohli for t20s.
CG Posted December 19, 2012 Author Posted December 19, 2012 Is Dhoni going anywhere? Yeah signs are there bcci sunny gavaskar said kohli should be captain.
The Outsider Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 There is nothing long term about captaincy in general and Indian captaincy in particular. The typical shelf life of most international captains is 5-6 years and shorter for Indian captains. There are exceptions like Smith, but it's foolhardy to pick a captain thinking you'll get 10 years of captaincy out of him when making the selection. Just in recent times Azhar, Ganguly, Tendulkar, Dravid, Dhoni were all done with captaincy long before they were done with players. Even if Kohli were to be made captain today it would be unrealistic to expect more than 5 productive years out of him, so this long term option should not be a consideration as long as there are 2-3 years left. Sehwag would be a good choice and Gambhir won't be bad either. Wouldn't go with Kohli for now.
saneindian Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Gambhir or Sehwag as captain? Non performance is the reason why Dhoni is being sacked and he should be replaced by either of these two who have themselves done absolutely nothing and were close to getting dropped before this series? Also having either of them as captain would mean the ego clashes in the team would go on and continue to sink the team further. Better thing to do would be to give Kohli the captaincy with the board's full backing.
Iconoclast Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Both options are bad. GG is selfish and VK is immature ... plus neither of them performed exceptionally well this past series.
Sean Bradley Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Go the South African way, Its worth taking a risk with virat kohli than gambhir...
shortbread Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Definitely not gambhir, the only reason people like him are still in the squad is because the selection panel has the brains and balls of a 2 year old school girl!!!
AbhishekS Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Gambhir for tests, Virat for T20s Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
superstar Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Gambir should be kicked out of the test team for the innings he played in Mumbai
its me Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Gambhir does lift his game as a captain and he is a aggresive captain.Kohli needs to play more test cricket atleast one more year.
Debutant Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Gambhir should not be in the team, forget about becoming the captain
Needforspeed Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 I would go with split captaincy. Dhoni to continue in ODIs and Kholi for Tests. As for T20s who gives a sh**. Even Vinay Koomar can be the captain.
Zero_Unit Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 I vote Kholi. Remember Ganguly had that cockyness (not saying Ghambir dosen't, but when he shows cockyness it looks like a freaking little girl crying over JUSTIN BIBER) and that natural charisma to be a born leader. Kholi kinda reminds me of him. He is aggressive and very cocky ... India needs that as a captain!
Clarke Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Kohli for sure, he's shown quite some character on multiple occasions. Heck, some BC/MC should be better than the stupid excuses Dhobi comes up with.
diga Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 tina what can you expect of CSK fan?
saneindian Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 tina Put a dummy as captain and even then the team will not do any worse given the depths it has fallen to under Dhoni :-) All we need is a start. Dhoni should be dropped from the T20s and Kohli be allowed to lead.
Clarke Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 tina How do you know that Kohli/Gambhir/someone else will do worse ?
