Went off to the ICL. Jaffer is probably seen as a bit on the older side, just as Chopra is though he too is really piling on the runs.
Sooda Posted June 24, 2011 Author Posted June 24, 2011 Tanmay Srivastava is still very young only 22...he needs one good season and he will be back in eyes of selectors and he has the ability to play long solid innings and is very good on back foot. Really.. that is interesting to hear. He did great, one of the highest runs scorers when UP reached the Ranji final was it three seasons ago?? Still is consistent List A performer too. But hasnt quite kicked on in the longer game. But yes he is young hopefully he can come good.

Just that beyond him and Vijay- and they still have much to prove- its a bit bare. Youre right re: Vijay..but he has not played a lot away from home so hope he takes advantage of this oppo... As for no 6, guess youre right, but between Raina/Pujara/Kohli and even Rohit there are bats who have proven themslves at ODI level so we have an idea of their quality. Really want Viru to bat lower in the order, think its the way forward. His eyes are going to decline with age and its best that he is not facing the new swinging ball much. AND Love the idea for SRT at 4 and him at 5... Yeah, I know what you're saying about the cupboard seeming a bit bare if Vijay and Mukund prove inadequate in Tests. But if that happens (both struggling in Tests), I think Sehwag will continue to open for a bit longer. I reckon he'll stay there for a couple of years or so before dropping down in the final years of his career, but who knows, it might happen sooner. One of Dravid and Laxman, maybe both, will likely retire after the tour of Australia in January, so there is a chance of Sehwag moving down the order as early as then if he really wants to.

He can cowlash in IPL For England tour, they can consider Dinesh Karthik or Wasim Jaffer as backup opener in the Test squad. Jaffer is very experienced, and Dinesh Karthik had a decent Eng tour last time.

Ultimate_Game Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Instead of looking at options like Kaif, Karthik, Valthatty etc. at the Test level I would prefer Ajinkya Rahane gets the chance. He bats at 3 but surely deserves the chance ahead of the folks mentioned in the thread. At least selectors should offer Rahane the option of playing as an opener. If he wants to bat at his normal place (at 3) then look at other options but seeing how Sehwag made opening position his own when there was no vacancy in the middle order Rahane may well do the same.

Look how long Vijay has stuck around for phuck all bar one knock...can't help but feel this has been fudged from the selectors perspective, from the current options I have most faith in Parthiv.

Seems like India A tours are given lot of weightage by selectors. I read that kohli was given consistent chances in ODI's are the successful A series in emerging trophy. So, is Pujara. He did extremely well in England. Interesting to see, who grabs the opportunity now.

Ya they should have selected opener Sarul Kanvar from Punjab....Sahil Kukreja from Mumbai another opener who had good season...Aniruddh does not even make eleven fro Tamilnadu...most of the players are selected on IPL performance...If RP Singh was not in England he should have been selected ahead of Vinay or Aravind.
