The next Indian coach should be...

On NDTV yesterday Gavaskar said that when Fletcher's contract is over we need a new coach who is an Indian and has a lot of experience as a player and has had a very sucessful career so that they command the respect of the dressing room. While I agree with Sunny that a foreign coach is not ideal (Kirsten being an expection and largely because he knew a lot of our senior players well and had to do a decent job in order to ultmiately reach his goal of coaching South Africa as he is now) I do feel that there is one candidate that is being overlooked all too quickly, that is the legendary sir Viv Richards, he led the West Indies to some of their greatest moments and bowlers all around the world fear him, even now batsman from Kp to Gilly to Shiv have spoken of him as an inspiration! A key for us as well is that unlike Kirsten who understandably was finding coaching in India tough because he was away from his family for so long, Viv will not have that problem as he has a very strong connection to India, having impregnated an Indian lady many years ago his daguther Masaba still resided in India. The circumstances plus the connection to our great country, make Viv the perfect man to take our team forward and from this transitional period back to the top of the tree in 2013!!

I don;t knwo why people get drifted away by big names here. Kapil Dev is a prime example of a great player and a failure of a coach. Coaching is a job, so only those who have some specific experiences should be handed over the responibility. Also, one more thing that needs to be looked at is how would that coach work with the captain. Kirsten was a hands-on coach whilst Dhoni is more of a hands-off captain and their combo worked well together. Problem now is that both are fairly uninvolved and that is leading us nowhere.

Why would I be joking about one of the greatest players of all time as our coach? that is something we should be anxious to make happen not laughing at! Agree he is a very strong and outspoken character but there are huge differences with Chappell, first Viv is a much better leader than Chappell, 2nd Viv understands the Indian culture far better than Chappel ever did or ever will, the fact of the matter is that Viv has brought a life onto this earth that is now an Indian citizen, that is a bond that so strong and deep, which means his passion to lead our team forward and to understand our culture cannot be questioned.
