He is blocking no one. #6 spot is wide open, #3 is barely settled in, #5 still has major question marks over him. Unless all of you come from the nutbar school of 'lets toss the entire batting lineup and start fresh, debutants through 1-6', there is no real cricketing argument for Tendy to go. We need, at the very least,to consider Tendy a clear liability in the team (which he isn't, he's had half a dozen or so really bad games. Back in Australia & England, he still was one of the best Indian batsmen as far as performances go). Or have a half-decent settled middle order before piling on the pressure to go.

Youngsters who are supposed to be replacing these greats (can't replace practically but atleast have some promise) are again and again sidelined.

Only in India This is no way to treat a legend of legends. Honestly, there is no guarantee the cricket world will ever see a player of his calibre let alone one of indian origin. Not just this but he has served us so well since 1989. I cannot accept the way he retired from ODI. I still harbour hope that he will come back in ODI. BCCI are useless, not only did they screw up the selection and planning of our team, but they accepted Tendulkar's request to retire from ODI. Imagine a 50th ton during England series. It doesn't make sense to me. I think Sachin did this to prolong his test career but I believe the shorter format might have helped him gain his form back rather than over analyse. He wanted to play all formats till 2015 imo. World cup is in Australia and our openers can't bat even in India..I know there is time to groom and talent there...BUT no one will be good as Tendulkar opening in ODI. He knows those Aussie pitches inside out and possesses every shot. I wanted to see him defend our ODI cup.

The fact is the whole retirement thing was overshadowed by the delhi protests. The media did not even cover it properly . That was surprising considering they would do anything to increase their TRPs

If we would have said - we would never see players of Gavaskar's and Kapil Dev's calibre and let them play till both of them aged 45, we would have never seen Tendulkar play a career of 23 years. May be he would have debuted by 1999 and retired by 2011. He would have got a career of 12 years of international cricket and 8000 test runs and 9000 odi runs. 30 test centuries and 25 odi hundreds. How does that sound? How are you going to see another player of Sachin's calibre if you don't give other players opportunity? Tendulkar knows that if he carries on playing and doesn't give other players opportunity, he would make his records even more difficult to break. I salute the Great Master. Hats off.

Oh really? What was Tendulkar doing when Indian team was hammered by Australia in Australia 0-4 last year? If he knows Aussie pitches so well, why didn't he score there when the Indian team needed him most?

VVS didn't make way for Jadeja. You can't use the stupid Board and it's politics to justify allowing an overaged player to hang around because you feel there are no options. VVS vacated his spot well. The board failed to fill it with a responsible player like Rahane or Tewary and chose the 6 crore blue eyed IPL **** Jadeja. Even now the players earmarked in IPL by financial heavy weights get king sized preferences in test sides when they are not fit for the format. This is why the likes of Srinivasan who own IPL teams and head BCCI should not have happened at the same time. He shouldn't be board President as his priorities lie in only keeping the IPL stake holders happy. Why have paid selectors if his writ is final? They wasted Laxman's slot by not putting in a better available youngster. Blame BCCI!
