Todays bowlers are faster on average than mid 90s and If i see some actions and runups and placement of wk .I would say many so called fast bowlers are myths.I am talking pace only not skills btw. When lee came and akhar came in they were 140ks and that came as a shock to most batsman as they had not faced such speeds consistently.

Have to agree with Pont here to be fair. I am not sure what Dawes does for his money or what ex-players have contributed to India phaaast bowlers. We can only move past our problems if we admit them and make plans to change.

Dawes need to get time to spend with these bowlers in the nets first then only he can do anything.

We Even have optional Nets Most days :cantstop: and we rarely have a off season .Even if we have most players are tired.Its going to be done during matches or when one is in reserves i suspect.

How is the article writer estimating what speed Larwood bowled at ? Looking at old videos, the wicket keeper did not stand that far back. He was obviously quicker than the rest of the bowlers of that era and hence the Larwood shock value. Similarly, during the 70s and 80s, cricket was played on uncovered pitches, batsme didn't have helmets, arm guards, caggressivehest guards etc and unlimited bouncers were allowed. Even 135 k aggressive bowlers would feel like 155 k bowlers of today. We din't know at what pace those great bowlers bowled day in and day out but in the speed contest that was held, the fastest speeds recorded were mostly between 134 k to 139 k. Only Thompson clocked 147 k as his fastest. Holding was second with his fastest ball at 141 k I think. All the rest never touched 140 k. We have to remember that most bowlers must have bowled quicker than normal knowing that it was an one off competition. Pacers today are definitely quicker on an average. So many quicks touch 150 k now. The batsmen have become fitter, become used to higher pace, have all the protective gears that they need and pitches have become way more batsman friendly compared to the 80s are before. Hence the pacers today may not look quicker.

A 145 k delivery at the time of release reaches the batsman at 105 k to 115 k depending on the pitch type ,bowler type, whether the ball landed on the seam etc. So, those speeds could not be speeds at the batsman's end. If they were, then all those bowlers were 180 k bowlers.:winky: The technology may not have perfect then but we won't know whether they were measuring the speeds higher or lower. In a nutshell, we don' t exactly know the actual speeds of those pacers. It would be highly incorrect to say that they were 150 k pacers.

The point was that today's bowlers are no quicker and looking at this i agree as keeper rod marsh is a pitch length back. Remember that bouncers reach the batsman slower than pitched up deliveries due to the pitch slowing the ball down

You should watch some robelinda series review videos of wi vs aus.you will find keeper was standing near the 30 yard circle for wi quicks.I have seen that regularly in australia in mordern cricker at brisbane,Mcg,Perth. Regarding the video it is shot by a diff angle,Also todays Matches there is hint of slowdown by cameras.
