kubrickian
two changes.Ishant n Vijay out.Rahane n Ojha in Rahane is not a regular opener. He should play at Number 6. Making him play as a specialist opener will mess up his career. Dhawan could be given a chance but I dont think he will do much better. Link to comment

Dhawan could be given a chance but I dont think he will do much better. he made his ranji career debut for mumbai opening and was an opener for mumbai from 2007-2009. He batted usually at 3 the past 3 years to accommodate players who could open like Kaustabh Pawar. to date he opens all list A matches for mumbai and even opened for them in T20s. Lord
Who will open then? Pick Ojha in place of Bhajji. Rahane in placed of Ishant in middle order and Dhawan for Vijay. Rahane will open.he might not have opened but technically hes better than both Vijay n Dhawan. I dont think we need 6 bat+ Dhoni since Pujara,Kohli,Dhoni,Sachin are in form and we gonna play on flatter surfaces.but we might need 4 spinners.Cant rely on Ashwin too much Link to comment
Number
natural opener needs to first go through the seamers, then only he can 'attack' the seamers.Vijay doesnt seem able to do it had a poor Ranji season, should not even be in the squad.that streaky ton got him in He is a good player of fast bowling too and is a positive player. He will come good if we give him a good run of 8-9 Tests. Link to comment
G_B_
and those calling Dhawan a regular opener, i do believe he made the jump to regular opener in the ranji recently as a result of Sehwag and Gambhir being absent. till then he usually batted at 3. Even in the IPL Dhwan started out at 3 before becoming an opener. Link to comment

Rahane is technically better than Dhawan.yes he isnt an opener, but is a no.3 n thats closer to being an opener than no.6,7.he used to open in the past. anyway Rahane deserves a go being on bench for so long,if thats as an opener,so be it.atleast it'll start his career, may or may not mess up.he;ll not be the first makeshift opener Link to comment
saneindian
Dhoni was also happy with his own contribution in the match -- his 224 in the Indian first innings ensured his side a vital lead. Dhoni came up in the batting order. "It was a very different innings, a special one for me," he said, adding he would continue to bat at No.6 in the near future. "Till (Ravindra) Jadeja is playing, and gets comfortable, I've got to bat at No. 6," explained Dhoni, adding, "Jadeja would have to improve slightly when it comes to his batting but at least he has the talent to get it going. Once he gets used to Test cricket, and starts to do really well, we'll think about changing the order again." http://www.rediff.com/cricket/slide-show/slide-show-1-will-keep-batting-at-no-6-till-jadeja-gets-used-to-test-cricket-dhoni/20130226.htm#4 Jadeja has his test spot fixed for next 3 tests, hopefully not for the away series outside SC though. I want him to settle down at 6. Link to comment

India got away in this test because of Dhoni's double century otherwise with openers looking fragile and a long tail, India would have been under pressure if they had to chase 200 on final day. When Kohli got out, India was 324/5 with Jadeja at the crease and tail to follow and then reached 572. It wont happen often. Drop one seamer because Ishant or BK are neither experienced nor skillful enough on Indian tracks to trouble Aussie batsmen. Play one more batsmen and pick Ojha in place of Bhajji. Link to comment

bharat297
I wouldn't judge Test batsman too much on their limited overs form because the games are quite different. The batsman's mentality, shot selection, the bowler's bowling style, the field placements/restrictions, the fact that the white ball typically swings more than the red ball, etc etc ... I mean, fundamentally its still cricket but if a batsman demonstrates good form in first class cricket and A tours, that should count a lot more than ODI cricket. Link to comment

Jadeja,Ashwin,BK,Bhajji are enough to compensate for 7th batsman on a flatter wicket. yes openers are failing, then change them or one of them, dont just keep them and one add extra batsman for sake of it.Rahane sould come in for Vijay I already agreed with dropping Ishant Link to comment
carnish
The team that India will have for the second test come Saturday ... Remember Hyderabad will turn but it will have bounce .. have no doubts, it will have more bounce than the chennaites have ever seen on chepauk. Hence one seamer is never an option in hyderabad. The probable team not the best one ofcourse: Sehwag Vijay Pujara Sachin Kohli Dhoni Jadeja Ashwin Bhuvaneswar Ishant Ojha Link to comment

Yes, there will be some bounce but it will be only knee high at best. In March, the pitch will be bone dry and will assist spin from 2nd day, if not the start itself. Ishant wont trouble batsmen on these type of tracks. He barely did anything even in England and Australia. Only Zaheer and Umesh could have done some damage. Otherwise, no point in playing 2 seamers on these type of wickets. Link to comment
