kubrickian Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Good crowds for test matches Despite the unprecedented security in the wake of Feb 21 terror attack in Hyderabad, the second Test between India and Australia attracted huge crowds at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Spectators were not allowed to carry mobile phones, cameras, carry bags and even banners inside the stadium. Many spectators carrying cell phones and other items either had to return disappointed or had to make alternate arrangements. More than 2000 policemen were deployed as part of the tight security arrangement in the wake of twin bomb blasts at Dilsukhnagar, which killed 16 people and injured over 100. "We have deployed 500 more men than we normally do for a match," said Hyderabad police commissioner D. Thirumala Rao, after reviewing the security at the stadium. Authorities deployed 60 Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in the stands to keep a vigil on the spectators. Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) officials coordinated with police for better crowd management. However, the tight security measures failed to dampen the spirits of cricket fans with more than 22,000 turning out to watch the clash between two of the world's strongest teams. Braving the hot sun, the weekend crowd filled the stands and loudly cheered the fall of every Australian wicket. Though the stadium's total capacity is 40,000, the capacity for the match was limited to 34,153 due to some construction work still going on in the top tier. The HCA made 23,000 tickets available for sale to public. Over 9,000 were given as complimentaries, said HCA secretary MV Sridhar. With India winning the first test at Chennai by eight wickets, more people turned out to watch the match. So test cricket not dying after all in India ? Also, good on Hyd crowd for cheering on the team despite having to sit under the hot sun without a roof over their head and despite heavy security and restrictions.

Has been getting starts ... wont be long before he converts them.
Dumbbells Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 He should stop ruffling his hair. He is hair and head would be sweating and if he keeps touching his hair, his palm would get more wet and it would be difficult for him to hold the leather ball and deliver it exactly where he wants....

He's been getting starts for 70+ innings and has a grand total of 2 centuries with a highest score of 126 and average of 35. Even Yuvraj has done better than him.

He had good starts in all the innings he has played so far. He has to be lot more selective in shot making as conditions are not as good for batting as they are in Australia.
PBN Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Personally, I don't see any merit in declaring on the first day. You never know how much the last pair was going to add and those runs could've become quite vital especially considering the Aussies have not even crossed 250. There is so much time still left in the game. Looking at it from Clarke's angle: A wicket or two is worth more what the Aussies could have added for the 10th wicket. Secondly, perhaps he thinks that wickets would be easier to get in the morning session tomorrow. Even after these points, don't agree with the decision.
Crookbond Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Watson approaches Test match cricket like ODI cricket and that sometimes leads to his downfall. It's ok to be aggressive but you can't just keep on playing your shots blindly.

Desi Cartman Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 It would have been smarter to ask the tailenders to play shots and if they get out then they would have bowled an over or 2 else they could have scored a quick 15-20 runs which is quite a lot considering their score. There was no logic in declaring at all.
The Outsider Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Pretty dumb decision. On Indian pitches runs scored in the first innings are gold because having to score the same runs in the second innings will be much more difficult.

Even Yuvraj has done better than him. I know his record and I agree with you. Just meant that we should wait till the series is over before criticising him lest he gets back to form to haunt us. That would be a nightmare if he gets to form here.

Just like he deserved huge praise for our WC wins he is responsible for these defeats . Coaches in cricket are only play supportive role nothing more

Would walk into most teams as a bowler alone IMO
