BCCI set to clash with ICC over DRS

In what seems to be a major setback for the BCCI in its steadfast refusal to accept the Decision Review System (DRS), the Indian cricket board is all set to face a critical vote at this month's ICC Executive Board meeting to be held in Dubai this month. Sources have told CNN-IBN that the ICC Chief Executives Committee (CEC) meeting in December 2012 saw a debate between the BCCI representative and the representatives of other boards. The agenda was to bring about a change in the DRS compliance. CNN-IBN has learnt that the CEC suggested that it should be the home boards who would have the right to use and enforce the DRS, altering the current regulation that needs both the home and touring boards to agree to using DRS

Hope other boards gang up together and decide to cut the BCCI to size on this issue. Now there seems no or very little apparent opposition from Sachin or Dhoni against DRS, Srini has made it an ego issue and his view counts for nothing in such matters

BCCI should realize that DRS does more good than bad to India, whose batsmen anyway don't need DRS to gift the wickets away! Atleast the bowlers will be benefited

Why cant they just use the replay for all decisions ? Have 3 team referrals for catches and lbws besides run outs which are umpire referrals. The replays are good enough to rule out most bad decisions. Even if BCCI has objection using Hawk eye because they think its flawed or expensive or whatever, there's no reason why BCCI should oppose referrals using replays to eliminate howlers. Something must be done to reduce umpiring errors. India was at the receiving end of many bad decisions in test series against Eng and ODI series against Pak. BCCI's adamant attitude is also not winning them friends in other countries and it will only marginalize it further in the world. At the end of the day, its for the good of the game.

India has been the sole opponent of the DRS, stating that the technology implemented currently is not 100% foolproof. In a recent interview with ESPNCricinfo, the BCCI president N Srinivasan made his position further clear as to why he would not like to change his mind on the DRS. "I'm not against technology but one should be cautious and we should be clear what it is that we are trying to achieve. If you say my correct decision percentage has gone up from 94 to 95.6, is that all you are looking to achieve? It is relative. But we must understand what has been the beauty of the game. "So the sum total of this is: we say, let us leave it as it is. You have taken bias out of the system, as the umpire by definition is neutral. Cricket is a game of glorious uncertainties, so why not keep it that way?," Srinivasan said.

Someone who runs a cement company is making big decisions in BCCI. Hence, the state of affairs.

Until Srinivasan steps out, things are not going to get an inch better for cricket in India..

Its fine to use it. But those limits of 2 per innings are foolhardy IMO. It may slow up a game but if they want to eradicate the wrong decisions, then the limit should not be as low as 2.
