1. Sachin-Ganguly - 6609 runs @49.31 2. Gilchrist-Hayden - 5372 runs @48.39 3. Greenidge-Haynes - 5150 runs @52.55 Best 3 probably. 2 of them were part of 2 ATG sides. I will chose Sachin and Ganguly, both of them faced best bowlers of their time and from what I have seen fared well against them. Also more often than not they were chasing big totals in 2nd innings.

@topic... The 3 mentioned pairs are jusstt too good to be compared! I'd go with Gilly-Haydos combo though! The pair would just go, demoralize and murder bowling attacks.. The consistency with which they did that was just amazing! Greenidge - Haynes, well never seen them play but heard they were brutes in their own league, Sach-Sau pair has given us countless proud moments and partnerships! The fortunes of our team depended on how these two perform on any given day... I'd add Sachin-Sehwag and M.Waugh-Gilchrist to the list as well.. And who can forget Jaya-Kalu partnerships!

But you don't average 43.8 throughout your career if you're an average batsman for most of your career. In ODIs he also batted well against India in India in 2001 when Harbhajan was in really good form. But the thread was about the best pair. And as a partnership I think Hayden and Gilchrist are the best of all time. They dominated almost every attack they faced. Yes the standards weren't as high as the 90s maybe but you can only play who you play. Also it can't be understated how important century partnerships in back-to-back World Cup finals are. If you think about the pressure of a World Cup final and to get your team off to that start not once but twice is insane.
