The Congress Thread: Tracking India's Grand Old Party

RG’s media advisors There was a two-day embargo between Arnab Goswami of Times Now interviewing Rahul Gandhi and its telecast. During this period, Rahul’s media managers were under the happy delusion that the interview was a grand success. The media managers had, as a consequence, scheduled interviews for the Congress vice-president with other TV channels. They stipulated that the channels would have to wait a week since the Congress wanted to extract maximum mileage from Rahul’s maiden one-on-one with a TV channel. After Rahul was universally panned, the media team had second thoughts. Interviews scheduled earlier were hastily cancelled. Rahul could have learnt from his counterpart in Pakistan, Bilawal Bhutto. The junior Bhutto last month agreed to interviews with the international media, including The Guardian and The Economist, but declined requests from the domestic media. The assumption being that foreign journalists tend not to delve deep into the nitty-gritty of domestic politics.

Congress debate Sources said that the debate in the inner circle raged for days as to who should get to interview Rahul Gandhi first. It boiled down to two anchors from rival television channels. Ultimately, an old hand in Rahul Gandhi's team was able to convince Priyanka Gandhi and others to choose the one seen the most and perceived to be neutral as well. What followed is now well-recorded. In an interview that lasted about an hour and half, Rahul failed to answer questions pointedly and often came across as vague or preachy, even though a potential question-bomb in the shape of Robert Vadra went unasked. Many senior Congress leaders are now questioning why Rahul Gandhi did not do proper home work before the interview. Sources said that initially Rahul and his family were given feedback that the interview went very well and he had come out like a hero. But as independent feedback poured in, the family realised the horror of the situation. Such was the shock that an interview of another leading channel was cancelled at the last minute. Sources said that even the Prime Minister was disappointed with the exercise, even critical of the way it was handled by the team involved. Sources also said that the PMO too had been left out of the entire plan. The Congress communications head Ajay Maken's phone remained unavailable for 24 hours after the interview. His media team fell short of words to explain what happened. The exercise to open up Rahul Gandhi to the world also showed the economy of information from Rahul Gandhi's own office, which is seen as feudal and secretive in nature. Meeting Rahul Gandhi becomes an act of espionage and subterfuge. One can only listen but not publish a word, a standard practice followed by his office for the past 10 years. You can mock him as much you like but atleast the guy is meeting people at the ground level and interacting... Where as Modi has been flying high doing big rallys etc. Atleast he needs to do some ground level public interactions in between and if possible man up to face media and do some interviews or press conferences...

Former Congress MP Jagdish Tytler Thursday withdrew from the party's internal race for Lok Sabha candidature from the North East Delhi parliamentary constituency. "He has withdrawn from the primaries after the intervention of the party high command," a party source said.
AAP effect or Pappu's?

Poor Pappu is going to finish off congress They really need to get in a genuine competent person.
He is laying the foundation for the eventual launch of Bianca Vadra into politics. Even Congress knows that this guy has no future beyond these elections.

It's interesting to see that not one person out here has come out to defend Rahul Gandhi. It is a matter of great shame that the oldest political party in the country and one that has governed the country for about 80% of the time post independence puts up such an incompetent goofball, that even ardent Congress supporters cannot justify.

^you have lot to learn about ICF posters..there are few pappu suppoorters here' date='only issue is they are in closet :winky:[/quote'] Exactly my point. I know that there are supporters. Of course, there have to be. After all, this party won elections 5 years ago and it is leading so many state governments, so it must have supporters. That is precisely what is most appalling about this situation. Even core supporters are unable to defend this guy. It is extremely saddening to learn that the oldest and most successful (in terms of election results) party in the country has put up such an incompetent candidate that even the most hardcore supporters of the party are embarrassed to defend!
