Maybe they would have liked or treasuredd you gesture? Teachers get little thanks in India in general. I know some of whom who cherish such gestures from a very rare student for their lifetime. Would you then say it made a difference?
Sure, maybe they would have liked it, but not doing it does not imply not being thankful and there are other ways to show your gratitude in which both people are comfortable rather than just one.

What kind of idiots would have a problem with such a humble and harmless way of showing your respect for the elders, especially towards your own parents and teachers ! A few modern day Indians would go to any extent to ridicule their own customs to fit in the Ultra-modern category.

Actually this custom could be embarrassing for some.My mother's side has custom to touch the feet of any elder they meet while my father's side don't.Recently I introduced my younger cousin from mothers side to of my aunts and one of their 38 year old daughter ,my cousin from fathers side.He touched the feet of my aunts and my other cousin too :cantstop:.How embarrassing it for a 38 year old woman who is still not married to get his feet touched by a young man in front of entire family

Where I come from' date=' girls are NOT supposed/told to touch feet of any elders.[/quote'] Where I come from, Orissa, girls are supposed to touch feet of older people. Good that you have this rule. Even married women should not be asked to touch anyone's feet. Hell, no one should be told to touch anyone's feet. Just do away with this custom.

Hope the implied embarrassment is not because she is not married. Because then, it would be very sad. In our society girls are ill treated if they are not married by a certain age. BTW why should it be embarrassing in this particular case?

I love it. Not to make it personal but I had a few Pakistani friends whose homes I would visit. I kid you not, even though Pakistanis (and Muslims in general) are raised to do a salaam, when I would touch the feet of Moms they would beam extra and put their hands on my forehead. It was not like a typical Hindu Mom, they would almost screw my hair but I loved it. Good times. Back to the topic, how screwed up are we that our CMs do this kind of corruption?? This reminded me of the time my elder brother was studying at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH). Amongst his batchmate was Lalloo's daughter who had obviously got in for wrong reasons, and every year would top the exams. Imagine how the smart and genuine students may have felt :((

We do that to parents and few elders only during some special events (festivals, marriages, etc). We don't touch feet, but do a complete namaskar like we do to gods (paying obeisance). I don't know what it's called. Definitely we don't do it to strange elderly people we don't know. Touching feet in reverence is purely a NI custom. Hyd/Telgus are slightly up north, so you are not a pure south Indian. South Karnataka/Tambis are the pure southies that I am speaking about :giggle:

I am not averse to leaning forward and down to touch old(er) people's feet. Not because I personally believe in it, but because it gives he family elders the opportunity to bless us with all their heart. And the smile that appears on their face when they do it is something to behold. However, the full prostrate/falling flat on the floor like somebody shot you is pretty lame. :nono:

But we do that to parents and some known elders (uncles and aunts and elders), but never on strange elders like NIs do...

Lol wtf happened to this thread. As someone said, it's supposedly cool among new generation Indian guys to act western n make fun of our culture. Tbh this is what I love about Pakistani folks. They r not ashamed of Their culture n their religion unlike most modern Indian Hindus n Muslims
