Reetinder Singh Sodhi - Another wasted talent

Does anyone remember him? Led the India u-15 side to a WC win in England, led the u-19 side in 1998 which had Kaif, Sehwag in it, was rated so highly by experts of that time . Started out so well as an all rounder even in FC cricket scoring runs and taking wickets. Was given an opportunity in the ODI side as Robin Singh's replacement, played some decent gritty knocks lower in the order (still remember his partnership with Dighe in a final vs WI ), did not take too many wickets but used to bowl 5-6 steady overs and was an electric fielder. He suddenly was dropped from the squad and never got a chance again as the likes of Bangar, JP Yadav found favour. With some work on his bowling, could so easily have become a utility all rounder. Saw him on a cricket show with Bishen Bedi on a English News Channel today and when he talked a bit about his career, the disillusionment was sad.

Yeah, he was a bit like R.Jadeja wasn't he? Brilliant fielder and a bits and pieces cricketer. Played one good knock of 60 odd against WI in Zimbabwe along with Sameer Dighe. But, he was not that special.

Not playing for India does not equal 'waste of talent'' date=' what a silly thing to say. It's one reason I like IPL, it has decoupled a cricketer's financial security from representing India. I could care less what happens to the national team so long cricket becomes a viable career option and not an irreparable risk for players.[/quote'] Thats true that, apart from not caring how national team does, I echo your sentiments to a certain extent
