A team which only plays longer version and not IPL and ODIs. We have seen that too much IPL and ODIs on flat tracks has worsened the temperament and technique of players and they have become more fatigued, injury prone and its obvious, they wont do much in tests over a period of time. Let this team be compensated a lot more for playing only tests. Jiwanjot/Vijay A Reddy/Dhawan Pujara Kohli Rahane Rayudu CM Gautam B Kumar/Shami Ahmed Harbhajan Singh Umesh Yadav Pragyan Ojha Can BCCI do this for the good of Indian test cricket ?

Some of these players can still play some important ODIs and tournaments like Champions Trophy much like how Clarke, Amla, Kallis, Cook etc. are doing. India is the only team where most members play all 3 formats and play all games. Its not necessary.

South Africans, Aussies, English put a lot more importance on longer version by preparing well before a test series and some of them also skip meaningless ODI games and T20 games as much as possible. Indian team plays all ODI games, IPL and put very little emphasis on working on their technique and preparing well for tests. By the way, I'm not anti IPL. Its decent entertainment for masses and T20 cricket lovers but we should also see that it doesnt negatively affect the national team.

Senior players should never be removed particularly from test team.tendulkar should play as long as he contribute.same for other Seniors in the team.you can not win test matches with young team against decent oppositions. #fact

They cant continue to play when they are a liability to the team also. Sachin is 40 already. He is a legend but there comes a time when he has to hang his boots. Sehwag is also a superb batsman but he relies a lot on his hand and eye co-ordination rather than technique. As he is getting older, his reflexes might get slower and he could be more susceptible because of that. Dhoni could definitely play in the eleven but other than that, there are no other seniors in the current lineup.

Can each player be limited to two formats for international cricket wrt selections ? You either play Tests+odis or odis+T20s at most but not Tests+T20s or all three. The first bunch could comprise of technically sound batsmen and wicket taking bowlers (if there's any) while the second could have the dart experts and sloggers. This can effectively keep the likes of Jaddu away from tests :P

Categorize him purely as a batsman. He's not a slogger and this way his darting abilities are safely negated. So out of all bunches.

The whole thing comes back down to incentives. With the current distribution of income. A mediocre IPL player can earn ~ $1m, whereas a Grade A player gets ~ $186,000. What incentive is there to become a specialist Test player? Pride? Pride is fine for maybe this generation because they grew up watching great Test and ODI moments by Tendulkar, Laxman, Sehwag, Dravid, Ganguly, Srinath, Kumble, Dhoni, Harbhajan, etc. but what about in 10-15 years time when the youngsters then would have grown up watching IPL and associating great cricketing moments with IPL franchises. I'm not saying it's a terrible thing. I love Test cricket and I'm a cricket purist but ultimately in the big scheme of things, cricket (like sport in general) is entertainment and all other forms of entertainment (e.g. music, movies, art, dance, etc.) evolve with time. I'm saying that if administrators are serious about preserving Test cricket then they need to provide more incentives to play Test cricket.
