The results clarly indicate that Pujara, Jaggi and Jadhav are the ones who should be ahead in the queue for odi call-up followed by Mukund, Dhawan or Uthappa. And these stats also highlight the fact why Rohit and Rahane are not going to solve our odi batting problems.

Yes. Flat stats are bound to be a bit misleading because not everyone is playing on the same kind of wickets. Maybe stats in Challenger Trophy or stats in Vijay Hazare knockouts and Deodhar would be a better indicator since at least the quality of opposition would be better and less uneven there.

Quite revealing actually. But they will persist will Rohit as he is "tailunted'. Pujara was expected to play against England but didn't so he can play in the next ODI series which we play. But Jaggi and Jadhav are nowhere near the Indian squad as of now. Even the others which follow them like Uthappa, Mukund or Dhawan are not on the selectors' radar.

I mean if someone averages 34 in List A/domestic cricket from 150 matches, how do you expect him to suddenly turn it on at intl level? Unfotunately Rohit & Rahane are suited to longer format as their FC averages suggest but can't fathom why Indian selectors are hell-bent on playing them in shorter format when their games are clearly not suited to the shorter formats :dontknow:

This. Domestic/FC stats doesn't guarantee success at intl level but the folks who have consistently performed well at domestic level surely deserve the first shot at intl level.

Players who have performed in Zonal matches, A tours, Challenger trophy and other similar matches, where the opposition is better, would be better choices. Also, players who have performed under unhelpful conditions and in tough situations, should be preferred.

Without scoring rates it is difficult to pick ODI prospects from batting statistics.
