Shreekant Wagh has always been talented but playing for Vidarbha means he needs to do something special to get noticed. The Vidarbha pacer has just done exactly that. Wagh took his second six-wicket haul in the Central Zone Vijay Hazare one-day tournament and created the national record. His tally of 16 wickets (4 matches) is the most by any bowler in Zonal one-dayers in the country. Former India left-arm spinner Rahul Sanghvi held the record with 15 wickets in 2000-01. With six teams in North zones, Sanghvi played one more match than Wagh. Wagh, who formed a brilliant new ball pair for with Umesh Yadav for Vidarbha, is now making his presence felt at the national level. He has the ability to touch the 140km/h mark; swings the ball both ways and has added a lot more variety in his bowling in the last two years. "I didn't know about the record. I was just concentrating on giving my best. As a strike bowler, it was my job to provide early breakthroughs and I am happy could do the job for the team. I feel I just need a big break. This performance may turn out to be that. As a bowler, I am more aggressive and look to take wickets. When I took six wickets against Rajasthan on Sunday, I told myself that this is not best and I say it now too," Wagh told TOI on Wednesday. Although Wagh hasn't got many wickets in Ranji Trophy this season, he was impressive and the selectors noticed his talent. He was included in BCCI's bowlers camp recently held at National Cricket Academy in Bangalore under the watchful eyes of Team India coach Duncan Fletcher and bowling coach Joe Dawes. "It boosted my confidence a lot. Duncan and Dawes were impressed with my bowling. They told me that they are looking for a left-arm pacer who could swing the ball in. Dawes told me to work on a few things and I have been working on those lines," he said. Unlike other bowlers like Ishwar Pandey, Sandeep Sharma and Suraj Yadav, who bowled on helpful wickets, Wagh has been bowling on some flattest of wickets in the last two years. However, he is not complaining. "As a bowler, you need to adapt to the conditions. I have a fair idea now how to bowl in flat wickets. However, every bowler loves to bowl on wickets that have something in them. It gives you more opportunities to take wickets. I have been bowling well for the last two years. The wickets don't often reflect how well you bowl but I have given my best. I bowled quite a few yorkers UP that went to boundaries behind the wickets. Today, I used slower ones and got wickets. There's no fixed formula to take wickets. gakgupta Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 When I last saw him; he was nothing special. But ppl change; skill changes......we have seen that with jadeja......hopefully; he has added some variety.......But has the build for a fast bowler....broad shoulders and good physique....

He will add variety .... Theres one more left arm pacer from Rajasthan.... He is tall and can bring the ball into right handers. .. Aniket Chaudhary... I guess... Need to keep eyes on these two guys..

He was very young then and was still improving though I would say he was quite impressive when he played a few matches for PWI and T20s are always tough for fast bowlers to leave impression.
G_B_ Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 during the ipl he has one good man of the match worth performance and then faded away. M4wv7eAGgyY i dont know what his pace and height are. If i had to take a guess I would say 6 foot 1 and pace about early to mid 80s. But cant say for sure.

According to reports, he has gained in pace since then as that was 2 years ago.

MCcricket Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 Wagh was a bowler who had good basics, can bowl 135 to 140 and now is a bit quicker n can move the ball too, not tall maybe around umesh's height but good built for a bowler.Ankit has improved phenomenally this season and should be groomed as he is around 6 4" and now moves the ball at 135 and can touch 140. Suyal was the most impressive left armer but is not at his peak this year, Anwar Ahmed to me is the most impressive but selectors are idiots and keep picking up crap bowlers who are not improving seriously Ishant should be dropped for good until he improves in a major way
