Can't see him don the gloves for a long time, hopefully SA can find another keeper who can bat and AB can continue with the sledgehammer in hand. For some reason, CSA REFUSES to try Thami Tsolekile. Then there's Morne Van Wyk, but we do not know if he has the temperament for Test Cricket. AB has done wonders since Boucher's injury in such a short time.
shortbread Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Both AB and Prior are part of very good teams, a strong batting, fielding and importantly bowling line ups. SA has Steyn, Philander, Morkel while England has easily one of the best all round attacks Anderson, Finn, Panesar, Swann etc.... What I am trying to say is whatever AB and Prior contribute is mostly towards a winning cause, their efforts result in something. Had Dhoni just scored a 50 or 70 here, Aussies will still have a lead and we would be really vulnerable or staring at defeat, which is what we have been witnessing lately. Contributions from an Indian wicketkeeper batsmen is mostly a face saving knock rather than a match winning one. We have one of the worst Test bowling line ups ever!! His SA or Eng namesakes have a team that make their innings worth its weight in Gold!!!

He has openly said that he can't captain and wicket keep at the same time and hence got the SAffer version of Pappu in the ODI team. He's a reluctant keeper and may quit it soon. That way, why not add Dravid to the list? Don;t think anyone was a better bat than him.

express bowling Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Dhoni great in ODIs but not in T20s. Doesn't have single 50 in international t20s. ABDV classic batsman. That is because he comes on to bat too late in most T20s.

Prior has made his life by bailing England out time and again with an amazing regularity. AB Devilliers is in different league altogether. By the time he is finished, he would be rated among legends based on his batting alone. In ODI's, most of the times I'll go with Dhoni unless we got a pitch which is very pacy.

Did ABDV ever play an innings like the one Dhoni played in World Cup final ? South Africa never won a knock out game in World Cup. What did ABDV do in those games ? In tests, Dhoni struggles a bit in overseas conditions. So ABDV is probably better. true fanboyism.. prior is still much better test batsman than dhoni

Doubts those existed were not about his skills, be wicketkeeping or batting, but were about whether he can take the load.

ABDV struggled like anything in Eng/SA and this was the first time he has come to grips with the dual role. LEt him be able to continue this for atleast 2 years at a stretch, then only he can be considered to be the best WK-Bat.
