ViruRulez Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 And I mean it. Murali Vijay has been an epic failure yet he is persisted quite regularly in the team. I do not disagree that he is a good domestic player but at the same time, he is one example where a good Ranji player can be a bad international player. His body language changes completely when he is playing international matches. He either swats the ball or looks terrified whenever he sees someone bowling bouncer or good deliveries to him. Even Jadeja is 10 times more confident than him while facing good bowlers. If you leave his first few tests and ODIs in his career where he was still ok, he would probably average less than 10 in both formats. His test average is anyways 28.40 and his ODI average is 17.81 which is pathetic to say the least for an opener. Even Yuvi has a test average of 33.92 even after being a lower middle order batsmen and he is regarded as a failure in tests. Vijay is a baggage and a pathetic one at that. Hope he is dumped very soon. I would rather give Rohit a few more chances.
Number Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 His Ranji highest this season was 45. His Ranji avg this season was 17. But our captain moron has given him free license.
cricketpitch Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I would rather give Rohit a few more chances. I know you would. Both Rohit and Vijay are tried and tested failures. Both of them should be nowhere close to the Indian team. If you had said I would give more chances to Rahane or Tiwary, I would have taken your post more seriously.
The Outsider Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Kaptaan Kool has already said that Mooli needs kaanphidense, so will play the entire series.
G_B_ Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 i curse the mumbai curators for making a flat pitch during the ranjis because of them Vijay is in. I am sure somebody in the CSK lobby needed a slight reason to pick Vijay. Btw i guarantee you that against weaker opposition at home Raina will get a chance in place of Rahane.

As bad as Vijay is, why this focus purely on his Ranji performance and not on other FC matches he's played? Hit a 266 and 116 in two irani Trophy matches he played, and those are supposedly a level higher than Ranji matches. Hvaing said that, I want him out of the side, let Dhawan and Rahane play as openers.
cowboysfan Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Murali vijay is a hack.he has only 2 gears, block it or throw the kitchen sink at it.

They are higher level for the state side playing Irani trophy because they get to face the best from the rest, but for Rest of India players it's like playing another Ranji game. Moreover, in Vijay's case both Rajasthan and Bombay were missing their best bowlers like Pankaj Singh, Agarkar, and Zaheer so in effect he was playing pretty average attacks though in theory the level should have been higher than the average Ranji match.

Yep was aware of that and hence used the word 'supposedly'. Anyways point I am making is while his Ranji failures get highlighted, why not talk about those 2 100s as well?
vvvslaxman Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I would have rather backed Dinesh Karthik.
ViruRulez Posted February 26, 2013 Author Posted February 26, 2013 I know you would. Both Rohit and Vijay are tried and tested failures. Both of them should be nowhere close to the Indian team. If you had said I would give more chances to Rahane or Tiwary' date=' I would have taken your post more seriously.[/quote'] I am no way a Rohit fan and everyone on ICF knows about it. But he has never got any chances in tests and so, would not mind giving him a test chance over Vijay anyday. Rohit at least can play a few runs in fast pitches outside the subcontinent but Vijay's case is completely different. Murali Vijay is afraid to face fast intl. bowlers in India and in bouncy fast pitches, he looks terrified as if he is batting with some meteorite crashing towards him and he is batting on a amber rather than on a cricket pitch. Murali Vijay seems terrified in his body language against all sorts of international bowlers in intl. matches whereas Rohit does not show a negative body language at least. His only problem is that he does not concentrate properly and take intl. matches seriously. Having said that, he was never given a golden spoon of being the opener for a prolonged time unlike Vijay. But I agree with you on the fact that somebody else must be given chance now leaving both of them. Manoj Tiwary seems to be a good choice and the kid has definitely got the temperament needed. Our opening slots are anyways wasted for the last year or more and hardly contributes a dozen or so runs. So, trying some new options might not be a bad strategy for the long term prospect of the team. Same goes for our fast bowling and maybe we need to test a few options in our fast bowling too. Ishant Sharma is becoming more of a baggage for quite sometime. Same goes to some extent for Bhajji though he can bat a few runs in tests if needed. In terms of batting, I would given Abhishek Nayar a chance too in tests though he is not that young anymore.

Even if you do count those two matches his average is 40 which is hardly anything great from domestic cricket standards.

Rohit is an avg ODI player but in ODIs+T20s where we have seen both of them, it is.. Rohit >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Vijay.
Number Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Irani trophy attacks were 2nd-3rd string bowling attacks of those sides.
yoda Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 He is going to get one last series. This series will decide his future. He performs, he stays, if not he goes. No big deal. It is not like we have a Sunny Gavaskar to take the opener slot(s). Soon we will have another opening slot available for filling given the way Sehwag is going. He does have a test 100 against the Aussies.

He does have a test 100 against the Aussies. Hope a single 50 run hack by luck does not prolong his stay in the test team for another 2 years. We need two openers. I would rather give chances to someone credible rather than persisting on a hack with a negative body language. Abhishek Nayar, Manoj Tiwary and Rohit Sharma (only in tests to try out) might be tested for the opening slots. Gauti is not that bad and if he performs in domestic cricket, he can be used to replace Veeru in the future. But something credible must be done with our openers. Our opening was our prowess in the pass but they have become liabilities by now. I know about his test hundred and that is why I mentioned earlier that if you leave his first few matches, he would probably average below 10 in intl. matches in both formats.
Lord Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Vijay is bad but Nayar n Tiwary as openers?:hmmmm2:
ViruRulez Posted February 26, 2013 Author Posted February 26, 2013 Vijay is bad but Nayar n Tiwary as openers?:hmmmm2: Where in the world is it mentioned that a batsman has to play at a definite position only. All our greats have played at different positions throughout their life especially during their initial years. If a batsman has a good technique, he can survive in all positions and Sachin is a living example of the same. Rohit Sharma was made opener in a few matches if I remember though he is no way an opener in domestic cricket. At least give the dudes a chance rather than continuing with crap players who have hardly contributed to the team for ages. If there is a suitable slot (for example, retirement of Sachin) they can be shifted to desired positions later on if needed. And who knows, a guy like Tiwary might be a good opener. I do not see any quality for which he would not be a good opener. His body language and temperament and handling of bouncers and seamers is fine. So, he would probably be effective there too. We have nothing to lose anyways.
yoda Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 ^Well that's one way to look at it. However, let's say you try Tiwary as an opener and he fails, do you dump him or does he get his chance as a middle order bat? I am not sure if the players themselves feel comfortable playing out of position. That is something which should be considered.
