Can we please pick players who can play in Tests AWAY and home!

We are going back to old ways, picking players who may well succed at home in tests to a certain extent. But the selctors need to look forward and pick players who do the bussiness for a number of years both home and AWAY. This also means picking players who will develop in to good players who can perform on overseas tracks. I see a load of players being picked who will give short term success in home series but will flunk when away. We are papering over the cracks. 8-0 away to aus and eng and selctors still picking players who cant do bussiness in all conditions. Where is the forward planning? Jadeja Sehwag(did well previous but finished now, especially overseas) Dhoni All 3 are classic examples of players who may do ok at home but overseas are exposed. We must plan for the furture and build a solid test team. Selectors not doing that at all

The conditions available and the bowling attacks in India are diametrically opposite of what you get in Eng, SA and Aus. You wont get any ready made batsmen who will automatically do well overseas. Even Sachin, Dravid, Ganguly, Laxman took many years and away tours to adapt and do well overseas. Selectors dont have any magic wand to produce another Sachin out of the blue.

Doesn't make sense how you put them both in the same category. Raina - Has failed in Tests but is surely not a failure in ODIs. One of our better ODI batsmen. Rohit - Has failed in ODIs mostly but has not even been given one chance in Tests despite a first-class average of 60.

what are you on man? Ganguly's first two innings overseas ended in centuries. By the time Sachin played his first proper series at home, he was already a internation star. Dravid too did well in England then had scored that 148 at Capetown. Laxman's first century was 167 at Sydney.

Yes maybe most players are not going to instantly score big overseas. Some do take time to succed. But what selectors dont do is look at their techinque etc and see if they have ability with run of games to improve,adapt and do the bussiness on diferent tracks to what we have at home. Classic examples are raina,dhoni, jadeja and yuvraj. It is clear they do not have abilty with techinque to do well aginst moving ball at pace and fast bowling on bouncier tracks. Yet they play. I have scary feeling that Jadeja is going to play away against safiies, were he will be hapless. Classic dumb indian selection. And even if they dump him will probably bring in Raina/Yuvraj!!!!

To be honest KT, i agree with you in theory. But considering the horrible run we are having we should concentrate on getting a series win. We need the confidence to get some sense of normality back with our test game. For me personally, India actually winning 4-0 is a big danger. That would mean the likes of Fletcher continuing and the status quo being maintained. Jadeja is never going to make it outside the sub. Sehwag looks passed it. Murali vijay is a walking wicket even in india. Ishant sharma averages 38 with the ball which is ****.

@ KT I agree largely with you. We are choosing the wrong types of players. Batsmen choosen should atleast look decent against bounce, swing, seam and spin. There are too many batsmen being choosen who do not qualify. Some like Sehwag qualified previously but don't do now. What is the point of choosing Raina, Jadeja, Yuvraj, Vijay etc., then they fail and are replaced after they have occupied valuable slots for 10 tests. Anybody can see that they are destined to fail in the first place unless they work on their weaknesses and remove them. I don't agree with u on Rohit and Dhoni though. Both can play pace and spin decently. The same logic is also missing while choosing pacers. Many pacers have been choosen who are not even fast-medium or are too brainless and wayward. Such pacers don't succeed in tests. Similarly, spinners who just gently place the ball are often choosen. All of them fail overseas or domestically but still, wrong TYPES of players are being choosen.

express bowling - Thats a good point on pacers. As I am talking about batters but its same with pacers. We keep picking 79 mph trundlers who cannot succed on flat tracks etc. And even on non flat tracks need pace and identify pace bowlers with some zip and get them in and groom them. Shami bowls mid 80s and looks made for tests. He for example needs to be given a run. Yet we are picking 78 mph bowlers who in long run just wont do the bussiness

As of now except pujara and sachin, there is no batsman in team who can do well in away tours. BCCI need to allow batsman to play in county matches..

When did we have quality bats who delivered consistently in away conditions, most of our batsmen mostly had one good test to save their averages or scored runs in second innings of test match where end result (LOSS) was just formality after their spectacular first innings collapse.

i think dhoni can play well in all conditions.His odi record is excellent in almost all the countries.
