To understand the issue in price, please compare Apple's product prices for USA and Germany. They are much more expensive in Germany than the US. Electronic products depend on trade agreements between nations, they are not just a function of manufacturing costs. You feel the pinch more due to the torrid forex rate. The more you travel outside India the more you will understand what I mean by this. It is not double the price! It is exactly the same plus a 5,000-8,000 more on each product. Remember we have to compare X with X. Pick up an unlocked phone from the US market and compare it with India. The reason it sounds expensive for you is due to the horrible currency exchange rate of INR versus USD (or even THB!). Let me take an example of the Apple iPhone 4S 16GB model. The retail cost of this unlocked phone from the Apple website is 549 USD plus taxes [0]. The tax varies and is different for different states in the USA and it can be as low as 15 USD to as high as 40 USD. Lets assume the tax to be a mere 20 USD (on an average). The final retail price of this phone is 569 USD (average). At the time of writing, this amounts to 31238.10 Indian Rupees. Now, let us compare the same unlocked phone in India [1]. The amounts (from different sellers) range from 33,965 to 38,000. Now, lets assume that 38,000 is the price of iPhone 4S in India (which is not the case since that was the price before iPhone 5 was launched). Even in the worst case scenario the difference is 6,500 INR. It is hardly double with what you're suggesting. If you're smart, you can get the same iPhone 4S in India for 2,500 INR more expensive than it is in the USA. That said, companies like Samsung may be pricing their phones based on volume of phones they sell. So the more phones they sell, they reduce the price.

So the more phones they sell, they reduce the price. nope..when phones get old they reduce the price sales number has nothing to do with it s4 is coming soon and also competition is getting better with htc dna which is much better and newer phone price is tough high i dont remember exactly but i had option of getting note 2 for 550 bucks in australia in india it was selling 37k ( i dont remember exactly cos i did not buy that phone ) in most countries u get get them on contracts..i dont think any phone is really worth so much tbh btw why is ipad cheaper then iphone in india..well it was when ipad 3 was around :cantstop:

It is not difficult to understand why the iPad based model (only WiFi) is cheaper both in US and India. i was jsut asking abt ipad..(i did not know its price in usa tbh ) and ok forget worth but why are phones expensive in poorer economy compared to australia ? een straight conversion wise there is difference of atleast 10000 on most samsung phones:cantstop: and i have seen bigger difference!

Sachin=GOD Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 The new BB phone and the new OS are quite good in almost all aspects but there's nothing you would love about it - nothing that would make it stand out in a lineup containing iOS, Android or Windows 8 phones so it cannot command a price of 43k. They have to reduce it to something like 35k or this phone will fail in India.
