When we were getting beaten left-right and center, our team took time to go go-karting in Australia, shopping in London. Well at least that was what the media showed. Australians are going through the same at the moment, but you can see their commitment to improvement. Instead of taking days off as the match ended early. They actually practiced on 4th/5th day pitch (the on used in match) to get better facing spinners. They may well still go on to lose the series but they are doing everything to compete and get better. Not sure I saw India having the same attitude during their last 2 away tours.

all depends on what the media prints and we decide to read; I did not see a thread highlighting how sehwag had a batting session after we won the first test.

Agreed Australia is professional bunch... and love the way clarke holds himself accountable.. However, instead of saying Dhoni is this and that... look beyond it.. our culture is not very aggressive and result oriented.. our culture is to maintain status quo... as long as my job is safe i am good... think about it..

To each his own. Just because Australia does something, doesnt mean it works for Indian team. They need to figure out what works for them and stick to that. For instance, Greg Chappell was a miserable failure because he imposed what he thinks is best on everyone else. That simply doesnt work. Also, Indian media is typically very negative and makes a story as if nobody is practicing and just relaxing. Everybody needs a break and they are free to do whatever they want when they are not playing as long as they know when to get back to training and get ready for the game ahead.

Australian media is way more negative. They're writing obituaries for Australian cricket team. Also its not about whether it works or no. Australia are showing intent to improve and challenge India. As a fan you expect your team to give it all. With India whether its selection or practice or preparation pre-tour. Everything seemed out of place and casual. And more annoyingly even during those defeats the attitude didn't change. It was as if they had given up even before series was over.

There must be some merit in this theory' date=' so I think.[/quote'] This method is not all that bad when players are in form and doing well, also playing lot of cricket, but when they are not in form and struggling with technical issues, like Ishant, GG, etc., practicing in the and working hard on the weaknesses in the nets is the best method. Only in the nets, they can sort out their issues. If they are tired mentally and physically, then it is best to take a break and stay away from the team.

It's work ethic. Indian teams typically (obviously there are exceptions with individual players) are typically lazy, and complacent. Australian teams work their backsides off trying to improve. It may not make a big difference this series because the difference in the spin bowling department is too great but in the long-term it will show. Re: Greg Chappell. In my opinion there are 2 aspects to coaching: 1) The ideas that you have 2) Man management and team culture Chappell's biggest flaw was his man management. Unfortunately Chappell was let down by his lack of man management. He did not understand how the Indian team culture operated and went about things poorly. His ideas, mostly weren't that radical (obviously a couple of them weren't the greatest e.g. moving Sachin to No.4 in the ODIs) but in general he wanted the team to put greater emphasis on fitness, fielding and have a more flexible batting line up.
