Cricketing ability and judgement on cricket are little related to each other that is why several unknown cricketers turn out to be batter coaches than some legends of cricket. Dont connect this with Amarnath. A general observation.

Unknown or little known cricketers are still cricketers. So they would have basic understanding of cricket to take decisions. But a cement company owner having better ability to take purely cricketing decision than a legend is something unheard of.

But what matters is if decision proved right or wrong and it did prove a right decision for the team after Aussie test series.

In short run only. i feel this gonna haunt Indian cricket for long, By all symptom,s we are back to 90's and next test win in SA, Aus or Eng is a decade away or so.

Most wanted a new captain, but you need to give young guys a bit of time to settle and hope Dhoni shows interest in building a team and identify the players who can deliver as Dravid had mentioned in one of his article.

I would say Gavaskar to face those Windies sides bowling at him without a helmet with the new ball clinches it for me.

For me it is VVS Laxman. Of course the obvious pick would be Rahul or Sachin based on pure stats. If one looks at match winning efforts in the 2nd team innings (3rd or 4th match innings) like the ones Laxman played at Durban, J'Burg, Perth, Port of Spain etc. that decisively swung the match in our favor for the bowlers to bowl the opposition out with a decent total to defend, and contribute to historic abroad wins, it has to be Laxman for me ahead of any other batsman.

Dravid for me. Nearly every big win in the last decade away from home was synonymous with a Dravid special. 148 at Leeds, 233 and 72* at Adelaide, the twin 50s at Kingston to win us an away series in WI, 112 vs WI at Kingston in 2011, 93 at Perth. Not to forget the Twin 100s vs NZ in 1999, 217 at Oval (next highest was 54) in '02 and the 3 100s in England in 2011. The number of times he's put his hand up for opening the batting or to bat after 2-3 overs and saved the team only adds to that aura.

Which is what you did. :winky: Back to thread, for me it is Dravid cause he always put a prize on his wicket, at home or abroad. Tendulkar played with flair, Dravid played with purpose. I would rate Sunny above SRT as well.
