hhhhdmt Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 i am astonished at the numbers they are achieving at this point. An average of 50 plus for both in odi's and strike rates of 90 plus. How would they have done in the 1990's in ODI'S? would they have simillar stats to what they have today?
Pagalpanti Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Kohli and Dhoni are 50+ as well averaging 50+ in ODI's is quite an achievement and if I am not wrong Dhoni has been averaging 50+ for quite a while now, probably 2-3 years

Pagalpanti Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 But he doesn't score many centuries. He has a 50+ score every 3rd or 4th innings and that coming at no.6/7 makes up for the less no. of centuries.
vayuu1 Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 yeshell no!do you seriously believed they would have tonked likes of ambrose, walsh, mcgrath, waqar, wasim, chaminda vaas, srinath, darren gough, young akhtar, young lee, young bond, warne, kumble, murli, saqlain, young razzaq and mehmood, gillispie, cairns, heath streak with the pitches helping both fast and spin bowlers ,some of the shots they play these days ,on those pitches they would be sitting ducks.
vayuu1 Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 About half of those bowlers you've listed' date=' like Walsh, would be brutalized beyond recognition today. I'll say apart from Ambrose, McG and Wasim, none of the rest would be a stand out.[/quote']:hysterical:we are not talking about walsh being a part of 2010's we are talking about abcd and amla being part of 90's,and even in today's time walsh would be hand full coz, a) he can extract extra bounce,b)he has got a very good yorker and loads of variations, same goes for vicky, goughy, chaminda and streak, not to forget warne, kumble ,murli and saqlain with all their variations can coz hell lot of problem ,its one thing facing ajmal and swann on south african and english pitches, and its other thing facing the above mentioned legends .
vayuu1 Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 and a young lee, bond and akhtar are way more dangerous than finn
jiggo Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Any batsmen averaging 50+ after a significant number matches in ODI is special, and with a SR of 90+, well then they are like Mourinho the "special one".
vayuu1 Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Walsh was scarcely a handful bowler even in 90s, so I am not sure why you think he'd be handful now. I do not dispute that ABDV and Kohli wouldn't have the same average in the 90s. They'll average closer to the 90s mean not because of the bowlers you've listed above but because they'd not "need" to.coz batsman today have so many things going there way ,be it pitches, rules, bowling.where as eightie and ninties was more balanced much more balanced than it is now.

hhhhdmt Posted March 31, 2013 Author Posted March 31, 2013 Ambrose, Wasim, Mcgrath and Waqar are all ATG'S in the ODI format. I don't think there are any quick bowlers today that are in that league in ODI'S. That was the point i was trying to make. Whether they would have managed to maintain that kind of average vs stronger bowling attacks of the 90's.

How would they have done in the 1990's in ODI'S? would they have simillar stats to what they have today? No. Neither of them would've averaged more than 40-45 and strike rate of 75-80 in the 90s and especially Amla, i cannot see him having a strike rate greater than Ganguly's in the 90s.

Are you crazy ? Walsh was one of the best bowlers of the 90s, especially in ODIs. an economy rate of 3.5 is no joke to laugh at. Walsh would pitch it slightly full and get it to bounce to your chest with his vicious inswingers and you would be screwed. He could do it all day too.

He could do it all day too.Walsh's 3.5 economy is no joke to laugh at, but Kallis's 56+ average is, so much so that in the same full decade(2000's) that both he and Sachin played together he easily topped Sachin, but because someone who goes by SachinLara says he is a second tier batsman, we should discount his batting and treat his average more like a 30.

vayuu1 Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 and no body is laughing at kallis,by the way this isnt about kallis its about ab and amla.

At least do some research before blurting out things, that make no sense and will not hold up against facts.Another of those myths busted. In the games won, below link shows how batsman from India (SRT), WI (Lara), SA (Kallis) performed in wins. SRT and Lara are not only below Kallis in that category, but also trailed their other, own countrymen. Used a simple 2000 min-runs scored in wins to qualify excluding BD. Sobers is the only one seperating himself fron the pack.
