Brainfade Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Vatan http://vatannj.com/ OR or Jhupdi? http://www.jhupdirestaurant.com/
The Outsider Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 I liked Jhupdi better - their thalis are really good. I've had their Kathiawadi thali a couple of times and was well worth the trip and moolah. Vatan is also good, but their service was pretty bad the only time I went there.
Brainfade Posted April 1, 2013 Author Posted April 1, 2013 Does it have to be among these 2. Gujarati thaali venum naa ... Translation for the south-challenged: If one wants a Gujarati thaali ...

The missus is going to be up there for a few days, and is looking for a good Gujarati thaali. There is no Gujarati restaurant in NC. At least not one that serves up a good Thaali.
Ram Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Gujarati thaali venum naa ... Translation for the south-challenged: If one wants a Gujarati thaali ... I see. Never been to Jhupdi, but the one time I did try the NJ Vatan, the food seemed very 'restauranty' (i.e, had a mass distinct mass production feel to it) P.S; FYI, Speaking of Gujrati food and Vatan, there's a 'Vatan' in NYC (http://www.vatanny.com/index.html) that has a very unique ambiance to it. Their Gujrati thali was one of the more unique meals I have had. The food however, is on the slightly expensive side. It's a standard $30 for unlimited thalis.
coffee_rules Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 definitely jhupdi, altho I am not a favor of Gujju cuisine, they need to use more chilli powder.
