Executioner Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I have been following most of the IPL matches seems I am a die hard cricket fan. So IPL, or BBL, or BPL or test kirkut, I got to watch. From what I have observed, this year, the matches have lacked intensity compared to that last year. Forget high scoring affairs, only a handful of matches have seen 160+ scores this time. I think a good reason could be that the word "yes bank maximum" sounds so lame that they have decided not to hit sixes. The quality of fielding and batting has been great, same cannot be told about the quality of the batting Although the crowds this year has been decent enough, compared to last year, I have seen fewer people in the stadiums. Most of the matches last year were sold out, this time I can see a lot of empty seats in most matches.
G_B_ Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 actually i think that IPL this year has had higher quality than last year -- fielding is much better -- pitches are more bowler friendly crowds wise, hmm Delhi there has been a dip. But Hyderabad has seen a huge rise in numbers.
Texy Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Ya this year almost all pitches provided assistance to bowlers hence not many 160+ scores ...good contest between ball and bat...would like to see more close matches though....
Number Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 It will get batting friendly as the tournament goes on, pitches will become flatter. After that spinners will be in business.
SLICKR392 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 This year was better than the last one IMO. Even the TRP says so & other than the RCB vs SCH match in Bangalore all the matches were housefull.
StriKe Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 CSK has played only two matches so wait :) RCB vs CSK would be great to watch tomorrow. MI vs RCB/KKR Matches between KKR,MI,RCB,CSK would be interesting.
rajmarie Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 actually i think that IPL this year has had higher quality than last year -- fielding is much better -- pitches are more bowler friendly crowds wise, hmm Delhi there has been a dip. But Hyderabad has seen a huge rise in numbers. This. Also batsman are expecting Bangalore pitches every match where they can just hack at every delivery. Also add to it that the pitches are varied...I mean Kolkata & Chennai helping slow bowlers whereas others helping quicker ones. Batsman just dont want to work hard for their runs. Heck...use Gayle tackics...go after the weaker bowlers.
saneindian Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Has always been the case in all years..some matches are close some are one sided
someone Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 It's a much better IPL than last season. More surprises and quality of cricket.
Executioner Posted April 12, 2013 Author Posted April 12, 2013 I am looking forward to better cricket in the next few matches. Hopefully, guys like McCullum, KP will be back and we will some big sixes
yoda Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 It's just warming up, wait and watch. Weekend games are usually better.
vvvslaxman Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 last year lot of us were pissed off after white washes. This time Indian fans are in better frame of mind.. again due to a whitewash
Small_town_boy Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 This years ipl is much better IMO..both bowlers and batsmen have had there moments and some outstanding catches have been taken... Would love to see more close finishes though... Still long way to go...sure will get many nail biters ...
Executioner Posted April 12, 2013 Author Posted April 12, 2013 I dont think the number of CLOSE matches is an important factor. I think the problem is that most of these cricketers have come back after playing test cricket. England, NZ, SA, India, SL have played test recently :P
Needforspeed Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Contrary to what the OP says, the IPL has been more interesting this year compared to last year. The crowd response last year was lukewarm in the earlier matches. This year from Match 1, the crowds have been fantastic. Of course, with so many matches, you cant expect high voltage finishes in each and every match.
